  1. I just want one of these, would I drive it? Do you actually think I'd let myself be seen driving in this around town? HELL YEA!!! Owning and playing with this car would be soo much fun. I'd do it.

  2. Hell we could get a little drive together, all four of us! Jason and I might be able to meet you and Linewar there in Beaumont, depending on when you come through.

  3. Hey Karmann if you guys are going near Flagstaff, turn south and go check out Sedona. It's really beautiful. I've only been one time by myself and I wish I could have spent more time there. There are supposedly either spiritual vortex or some magnetic ley lines all through that region and you can hike to them and experience what ever it is that people do there. Nice little town too.

  4. Let me guess, your truck dies occasionally when you come to a stop, or it idles roughly around 300 rpm and blows black smoke, right? When mine did this, I also narrowed it down to the iacv, which I was able to remedy by having a 3 step Gunk fuel system treatment performed at my local kwik kar oil and lube station. What I really believe dealt the crushing blow was the 20 minute iv vacuum line drip with the engine running, they also put a bottle in the tank and spray cleaned the throttle body. After that it was fixed and never came back again.

  5. I'm sorry to bring this up again but I had a major breakthrough yesterday with my truck and this entire front shock issue playing the accordion game bouncing up and down after going over a bump, even though the shocks are new, not blown. And then I thought the bushings being correctly installed had resolved the issue, it actually did not. BUT NOW!!!! This time I've got it, I SWEAR! I finally cranked on my torsion bars, I had no idea how sagging and unloaded they were, there was no tension on them so whenever I went over a bump or sharp rise, the front end would go up and down excessively.

Well, now after having cranked my bars, the ride is fixed and the shocks can actually do their job because they're in the right position and there's a lot more tension on the front. After I finished, I was able to do a little offroading and I love the way it felt, tough and firm, confident. This upcoming weekend I'm finally going to put the rear coil spacers in and bring up the rear a little bit, bout a 1.5" lift.

Now I know, it wouldn't have mattered what shock I put in there, it still would have done the same thing because the front spring tension was screwed to begin with, so I am sure if I tried again the KYB GR2 shocks in the front, as I did before, probably would have been great instead of uncontrollable.

It seems I really didn't lift the front much, but the bolts are just about out of adjustment, I guess that's where re-indexing comes in to it. Regardless, having a new love affair with my truck :)

  6. Is that Rick from the Walking Dead, the little sticker? That's cool. What did you mean by, "It was in a Time Capsule" Is that a literal or figurative statement, as in some little old lady had it in her garage..or something...Nice truck btw, I think that's my next buy, one of those or a QX4.

And this is after the last week since I bought it.

  7. Dude, you are the MAN! I'm glad you're my friend cuz I don't know how to a tenth of that crap you just soldiered through.

I did however, catch what Precise was saying about cutting / reforming thread, that's cool because in my line of work where I've got hydraulic lines with male pipe threading into 85 lb pneumatic plugs, sometimes those threads get gummed up and I have to re cut new threads and hope it doesn't make the inflation port too large and loose for 1/4" pipe. So, whatever that is, that rolled tech, I need those kind of tap...

  8. So my former 90 sentra that I sold to my step daughter and her BF won't start.

No you didn't. It might have over heated because of the stupid plastic topped radiators that nissan uses in that car, and our pathy's too. It could have a crack in the plastic and all the water leaked out, or as I saw on a 1.8L 2002 Sentra, the top metal cap that presses down into the plastic was allowing the water to leak right out.

If that's not happening and it's not a busted hose leaking all the coolant out, then its gotta be a bad radiator cap. The boiling point of water / coolant rises under pressure, if your cap is bad it's not holding pressure allowing all the coolant to boil out, even though there is no physical sign of a mechanical failure that would show the leak. I can't imagine how the cap could possibly be cold though...

What worries me more than that is what she said about the engine noise all of a sudden lessened, and then a backfire. This sounds to me like a failing timing belt or chain that loosened up, causing the back fire and then not starting because the timing is all out of whack. Sorry to go all apocalyptic on you dude.

I lost a 22R-E the exact same way once. It had a tick tick tick like a lifter tick but it was a valve tapping a piston, then all of a sudden the noise went away, like it fixed itself, then about maybe a couple weeks later the chain loosened and jumped teeth, punched a valve right through a piston.

  9. Those 04 Pathy's are friggin nice man, (last year of 2nd stage of the R50 before the transition back to the body on frame and I think had the best looking bodywork) and compared to the ZR2 Blazer? Guess what, with the Nissan you get rear passenger door access (ZR2 doesn't have any rear passenger doors does it?) and a more powerful v6 engine in the vq35 250 - 260 ish than the 190 hp 4.3L in the Chevy. Nissan really easy to lift too with Fleury's stackable / scalable spring spacers.

You're not a kid, you're a grown man with a wife and family, believe me you can get into plenty of trouble out on the trail in the muck with the Nissan, then run through a car wash and pick up your lady for a night out at the Steak and Ale in your beautiful and elegant Nissan Pathfinder, not the red necked lifted and widened suspension and wheel base track of the ZR2 that doesn't have any rear passenger doors.

The Nissan is a 4x4 for adults.

BTW 2 door Pathy's are awesome!

  10. Okay...let me clarify, I guess...if this were ME doing this project, it would be utter complete lunacy and probably be the cause of divorce, and then it would probably take me ten years to complete it. Not to mention all the research and development required to somehow fabricate a union between some huge electric motor and transmission and solar cells mated to the batteries, all of which I'm entirely in the dark on. Not to mention the clean up and body work. You might as well ask me to build a rocket in my back yard that I could shoot into space.

I'm glad you've got a handle on this! That Re Birth Beetle looked awesome, that thing hauls ass! 2nd gear start, shhoooooommmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Crazy would be an understatement. This kind of thing is so far outside the box, you can't put it into reasonable logic. So, going with that train of thought, I don't see any reason not to do it. As long as you know that anything you did with it would be a lot of work and money, so it doesn't really matter. I think it sounds like a cool idea, and better than just letting it rot to pieces, doing something is better than doing nothing. And as for platforming goes, what better platform to learn and experiment with on converting to a solar electric car than a VW bug?

To me, it doesn't matter the condition it's in or the fact that it's been sitting, the whole project will take so much work as to completely dwarf any of the cosmetic / mechanical issues, sanity never really comes into it. Atleast we are now living in an age where you've got some baseline tech to start with as far as electric motors, lithium ion battery tech and drivetrains. Integrating those issues and tying into a solar charging array will be more of a challenge than cleaning and straightening the rest of the car.

I'll be following this closely. Good Luck.

  12. Does it speed up and slow down with engine rpm? I just thought it sounded like an exhaust leak. I think I agree with someone above stating remove one wire at a time until you find the one that when you pull it, nothing changes, the engine ignores the fact that you just removed a wire so atleast you'll be able to narrow it down to which cylinder it is. I'd have to take a stab at the injector you replaced and one or two of the pins on it is different than the harness, like a ground wire or some other signal pin isn't in the right spot, you might have used an injector with different mapping so it's not firing that cylinder, no combustion.

Why not remove the wires one at a time until you can confirm the culprit cylinder also happens to be the one with the newly replaced injector, then swap that injector into another cylinder that you obviously know is firing and see if you can re-create the problem.

  13. Sounds like you just need to upgrade your video card. You can get a budget card that'll do the trick for about 60 - 80 bucks, and will play most games on low settings. GeForce GT630 will work.

There is no saving in the game, when you close it and then start up again, your just right there in the trail where you left off at. To set a marker, just click on the map where you want to go and then hit F1, do not click the "Ok" button on the map because that just deletes your marker. But the marker is just a straight line to follow, it doesn't help route you, it'll go straight through the forrest when you need to be on the road, though I do cut through the forrest a lot, if I'm not pulling a trailer.

  14. Yeah I'm getting into it, really slooow start to that game, I've almost got all the areas cleared out, think I need to uncover one more and then I'm going to get all the garages unlocked, find all my vehicles and then finally start logging and carrying some loads!

  15. Hey man! Btw, LOVE the burgers..you do some great work over there...Don't be shy man, it's cool here. I promise you're not gonna get flamed out for saying the wrong thing or being factually incorrect or whatever, no Haters here so don't sweat it. I say stupid crap all the time and most just laugh and shake their head, you know in a good way.

  16. Wow man, that sounds like fun! Exciting stuff you guys are planning, I'm sure one of our residents TheExBrit can help you figure how to pack an extra 1000 pounds of gear on to that truck for your trip. This will be interesting progress to follow. :) Glad you found the site and can start getting all your bugs worked out.

    My name's Greg.

    (I'm old Greg!!!)

  17. Speaking of the Domestic front, guys I swear to you I have gotten 345,000 miles (in 5 years, 27,000 in 2008) out of the 4.3L v6 in my Silverado, which I'm pretty sure is the same v6 engine in the Blazer and S-10 trucks. The miles on that truck have been hard Houston driving jobsite offroading carrying equipment with a 300 lb Tommy Lift gate on the back, I have not been nice to that engine.

Only Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W 30 every 5000 miles but I've run long into the 15,000 miles plenty of times. We are just wondering when it's going to fall apart. Just sayin.

  18. Sorry guys, I've gotta go with the big cold frozen T on this one. I want a 1st gen Tundra 4x4 Xtra cab, or T-100 4x4 Xtra cab in the worst way, those are impossible to find though.
