  1. you never mentioned backing in reverse to unlock your front hubs after shifting back to 2Hi..? Sometimes I have to do this, sometimes I don't as the fronts usually seem to unlock on their own after I shift back but if the dash light doesn't go off, then I'll pull over and go in reverse about ten feet. It's good to do just to make sure.

  2. Sounds like he needs pads and calipers IF the slides can't be fixed by being cleaned and lubed. A lot of times it's just neglecting to lube the slides during every brake job that causes them to stick. He'll know if he needs a caliper when he tries to retract the piston.

I'm sure he knows he better get it fixed now before he hits metal on metal.

He should also turn the rotors if they can be. That's a lot of heat coming from a stuck caliper.

    X2 on this one

  3. I run the rancho 5000 and the ride is great, just a little bit stiff but it isn't harsh at all.

My last set of kyb I had in the rear were jittery, I thought at first I liked how firm they were, but then the more I drove with them I started getting all this nervous jitter and I finally couldn't take it had to get rid of them.

Those Ranchos aren't too jittery are they?

  4. Awww that's great man...I know exactly how you feel. Hell I've got a sweet little female maltese named Sasha but it's the Danger that gets photo'ed and bragged and talked about to others...not the sweet little doggy!

  5. The sensa tracs are okay but I find them too soft.

Soooo what did you upgrade to? If you say Rancho 5000 I'll be really confused because I keep hearing that they are softer than gas pressurized shocks...however I am starting to think more about oil filled shocks instead of gas....I may be due to try a set in a year or so...

  6. RedPath,

Unfortunately you won't be seeing my truck on Kings to often anymore, my truck and I are now living in San Diego. That's a great story though, and I'm glad I do know the site, it's helped me so much. Every time I see a nice wd21 I wonder if they know the site and always think about leaving the address. Thanks for the welcome!

Man, great looking truck, that first snow pic is really stunning! Your dark tint combined with the rims and that gorgeous paint job I think all really pop together. What you said about the NPORA address makes me chuckle a bit because in the past when I've come across any other WD21 nearby in a parking lot I've left them a note, and I once ran up to a guy sitting in traffic in front of me, I said Hi to him real quick and gave him a piece of paper with the website on it, and a guy in a convenience store gas station once.

  7. Earlier this year, I replaced the front struts, rear shocks and several other maintenance items and now the back end is bouncy is heck.

Yea, I had this as well when I tried a set of KYB GR8 / Excel G twin tube gas shocks on the rear, they did ride a little jittery, I ended up changing the rears to Monroe Sensa Tracs and those seem to be fine so far.

  8. Tires options General Grabber AT2 , Cooper Disco AT3, / ATP, BFG AT KO 2, Nitto Terra Grappler, Toyo Open Country 2, Hankook Dynapro ATM

All great tires, nice road manners and will pull you through the dirty parts when necessary. I personally own the Cooper Disco AT3 and very happy with them. I think they all rate fairly adequate in the snow, I know I watched a good review video of both the General Grabber AT2 and Disco AT3 in the snow on Youtube. I'm in TX so no snow driving for me.

Speaker wise I've got a Sony Xplod head unit pushing 4 Rockford Fosgate Prime 5 x 7 speakers which sound great, my son and I drive around jammin with the stereo cranked up all the time. Got them for around $70 a pair from Cartoys.

  9. Hey guys a LOT of us have had this here and has been covered extensively:

My guess is Idle Air Control Valve and as I've told countless others, the trick that did it for me was the Gunk 2 stage fuel system treatment with 20 minute IV vacuum line drip at a local Kwik Kar oil and lube service. Has never come back to haunt me. You guys could have a loose MAF ground wire or check to see if you've got any codes thrown from the engine.

  10. Too bad you're not working on the other head too. As long as your in there and doing port and polish work, oh yeah..what's up with the other side? No port and polish? Anyways, I was gonna say as long as your doing all that, why not take your valves to the proper mechanic / technician / machinist, I'm really sure who it would be but to do a 3 angle valve job, that combined with your newly ported and polished and rebuilt heads (knurl the valve guides?) would get you a pretty good boost in hp. Holy crap, I've hit the Motherload! Check it out!

  11. 74 Chevy K30 SRW plow truck. Blade was stuck at full right tilt, no guides on it to know where the blade was, popped out of 3rd gear if you thought about moving your hand from the shifter, cammed up big block that would NOT idle, no power steering, and on 33s. The hatred I had for that truck...

THIS deserves a thread all it's own! I really want to hear more of this story :) Holy CRAP! That has got to be one of the worst vehicles for learning to drive on. Pops out of 3rd if you even thought about letting go of the shifter, driving one handed no power steering and it wouldn't idle so while you're wrestling with the rest of this beast with the blade you can't raise or turn, big tires and no power steering, (one handed in 3rd!) you also couldn't take your foot off the gas for longer than a few seconds! Oh man! Hopefully you were atleast a young man, early 20s maybe by this time, right? Not like 15 - 16 years old....dear God...So I'm guessing you learned to shift into neutral and brake left footed like driving a 6,000 lb go-kart, right? You had to keep the engine running, but also stop too....What an experience.

  12. Nismo European spec, Schneider racing, Jim Wolf, '84-'3/87 300zx cams, and and a few others.

OKAY that is what I was shooting for when I said DETT, I meant 300zx motor, I thought all the twin cam vg motors were a "DE" aren't the cams the same for the n/a as for the twin turbo?
  13. And it's here. Okay guys, most of you probably know the BFG A/T KO irritates the crap outta me, I guess because the market is so extremely saturated with them. So it should come as a surprise to everyone here when I say, this new A/T KO 2 looks bad ass! Yes, I'm actually excited about a new BFG tire. This thing looks really, reallly good. The sidewall test on their website made me cringe. I'm impressed folks. Oh yeah, it's really friggin expensive too. A 30" tire in a 16" rim is roughly $230!

  14. Can definitely not use cams from a DE(TT)

Oh well, I figured they were close enough in the channels they ride in, figured the lift and duration just a little more extreme. Isn't there another cam option open to us though?

  15. You know, unless you want to do the swap just for the hell of it, that's one thing, okay new more powerful motor, that's great....but if you're getting into this because of your current motor needing to be rebuilt, before you go all in on the VG33 you need to atleast verify the status of your existing motor, at this point for all anyone knows, you could possibly get away scott free with just a set of cams, until you get your engine diagnosed, you are totally in the dark. Infact if it's just a set of cams, I think there is a little hotter cam you can use out of a VG30DETT probably, that would really wake up a vg30 and that's a direct drop in and go application!

  16. Hell why not, you realize I'm speaking purely from a hypothetical stand point and will probably never do a swap in my life, I don't have the knowledge or resources to do so, but yes, given everything that I've read on here about doing the VG33 swap I think it would make perfect sense.
