  1. Along with the exploding charcoal canisters, a real common issue for the R50's (mine included) is the valve dying since it's in such an exposed location. If the valve is stuck open, it makes it impossible for the EVAP system to run a pressure check, so it throws a SES code (P0446, maybe some others too). The bolts holding the valve onto the canister are just screwed into plastic female threading, so it can be a pain in the ass to get the valve off (grinder, hacksaw, etc...). But, if you can get those bolts to give, just hook a 12V up to the valve and see if it closes, if not give it a hit of WD40 like Dank suggested and hope that fixes things, but otherwise gotta replace the whole assembly.
  2. Hey skulptr, any chance you can pull the left(driver's)-side post-cat. converter 02 sensor? It's on the exhaust just a few inches behind the cat. Easy thing to rust-on, and it might be messed-up from the crash, but it'd be appreciated.
  3. I need to get my '97 emission-tested, so the SES light and the p0446 code that have kept me company for 4 years have to go. Are the EVAP/Vapor Canisters for '97 interchangeable with those from 98-2000? The pricing on a few sites makes it seem like they changed canisters for a couple years, then went back to the '97 style for '02-'04. Any suggestions you can give would be appreciated, I'm about to get in under mine and take a hacksaw to the frozen bolts holding the valve to the canister if no amount of bolt de-freezer does the job.
  4. Hey guys, Putting a new head unit/speakers into my 97XE and i got a couple questions. 1.) Where is the factory amp(non-bose system)? 2.) How do i bypass/remove the amp? 3.) Am I gonna need to do a full rewire(all-new wires from the head unit to the individual speakers) or can i just do it form the pre-existing wiring and harnesses? Thanks for any help/suggestions.
  5. Hey guys, Putting new head unit/speakers into my 97XE, and i got a couple questions. 1.) Where is the amp? 2.)How the hell do I get rid of/bypass the damn thing? 3.)Would rewiring the whole speaker system(running all new wires from the head to the speakers) be a major time and labor investment? I already got the door panels off, but i cant figure where the wiring's running from there. Thanks for any help/advice
  6. I can sorta set the panel aside, but there's not a whole lot of give in the wire, and its hard to work on the radio and dodge around both the stick shift and the hanging panel. If it helps, a metal, L-shaped piece comes out the back of the metal cigarette lighter cylinder, and this black plastic sleeve sits over it and has two wires running out the back. The sleeve has clips on on both the left and right sides, but undoing those doesnt seem to make removal any easier. Thanks again for any help.
  7. Hey guys, I'm putting a new radio into my 97 pathy, and step one is taking off the center console trim panel. I got the panel off fine and 4 of the wiring harnesses were easy, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the small, black, L-shaped harness off the back of the cigarette lighter/power point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
