I went to run errands today and noticed my front passenger side making a weird noise... got out and shook the wheel. Got the noise to make it again... looks like my day off Monday is now going to be spent trying to figure it out...

I'm not a wheel expert, so yeah if they work then go for it and save a couple extra bucks FOR SURE! I know I'm glad I had the wheel spacers with me when I had my tires installed b/c I was rubbing without them... I was also told I'd be fine with 31s LOL -

my stock wheels are 15"... on my pathy I put them on without it and they rubbed completely. The wheel spacers pushed them out enough to not rub on the strut at all. On my old Xterra I had 31 BFG AT's and they fit stock. I had to trim the wheel well, but they fit stock... just my .02 -

You don't need the whole kit because you said your rear shocks are new. But if you want the springs, for the front you WILL need: new struts, the OEM parts, and camber alignment bolts FYI Oh, and if your going with 31s on stock wheels (as am I for the moment) you will need front wheel spacers (about $100) or your tire will rub against the lower strut cup.... And, not to be mean, but get a job and help your parents pay for YOUR trucks parts!!! -

Then SAVE for a little longer. I'm not telling you to spend the extra couple hundred $ for the hell of it. I've been building trucks for years and I'm telling you from personal experience- "You WILL hate life when your @!*% fails b/c you couldn't afford to do it all at once". If you think the couple hundred is too expensive now, think about what it's going to be like when the new springs work, but you find out one of the other parts you should've done at the same time goes out a month later.... only at that point it's not just the couple hundred $$$ anymore! It's the cost of the labor to take off and put on what you already paid for (probably 4 hours at $50/hr)... oh, and then hopefully it didn't cause something else extra to break. So now a couple hundred turns into EASILY a few hundred. -JUST SAYING! -
Just installed mine last month... AND CAN'T SING ENOUGH PRAISE ABOUT THEM! SUPER easy to install and I gained 1.5-2MPG!!! WARN manual hubs ARE A MUST HAVE for any R50 owner!

SERIOUSLY- SPEND THE EXTRA COUPLE HUNDRED AND GET YOURSELF ALL SET UP FROM THE GET GO! THERE'S NOTHING WORSE THAN STARTING A PROJECT (LIKE SUSPENSION) AND DO THE WORK TO FIND OUT YOU OPENED A CAN OF WORMS AND SHOULD'VE JUST INSTALLED EVERYTHING FROM THE BEGINING IMHO.... I'VE BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT TOO MANY TIMES LOL Sorry for ALL CAPS... caps lock was on OOPS! -
Nice job! Did you do it yourself? Not a big fan of the wheels, but to each their own. LOVE the black paint!
-
Yeah... I have one in on each side... it's not bad at all when straight but when when wheels are slightly off straight they look like they need one more.... argh! It's an easy enough fix I guess. Think I'll need ANOTHER alighnment after the 3rd and 4th?

... how many camber bolts did you use with your AC lift????

To answer your questions: 1. it's called a catch 22 for a reason... do you know of this term??? Dust partiments can cause leaking seals with OR without boots. Seriously, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. If you're not "wheeling" through mud and junk then DON'T worry about boots for your struts. The boots will just trap in MORE dust and not allow it out. Leaking struts will happen reguardless of how clean they are because over time the heat generated from the friction of the stantion going in and out will cause the seals to expand/crack.... are you following??? 2. having a boot or not having a boot WILL NOT change the effect of suspension performance. You will NOT notice a difference having them or not having them. Adding boot is NOT difficult just VERY time consuming and the mechanic will NEED a spring compressor tool. Seriously, unless you're needing to replace your struts DON'T mess with them. Have you ever heard of the term "don't fix something that's not broken"?! We don't use boots on our dirt bikes either FYI. We cut them off immediately upon getting a new bike or new fork....
-
It's catch 22 REALLY.... 1. WITHOUT boots- dirt/rocks/mud can get caught on top of seals. When the strut/shock gets compressed the dirt/rocks can "scar" the stantion tubes. Then the dirt/rocks/mud will get into seals (cutting the seals and causing leaks). Also, "scarring" of stantion tubes will also cause seals to leak (typically DEEP scars though) 2. WITH boots- dirt/rocks/mud aren't directly exposed to the flying debris so "scarring" the stantion tubes is dang near impossible. HOWEVER, dirt/mud/rocks WILL get inside of the boots and WILL cause seals to leak just like in #1 when the stantions compress into the strut with the debris. Now with that being said- I do NOT use shock boots because they cause more damage than without them (IMO). As long as you clean your vehicle after it gets muddy/when your done wheeling just make sure to clean off the naked stantions and you'll be good!!! Just look at all the baja trucks and rock crawlers... they don't use them for a reason

how long does the TB take to replace on this truck???

...MPG wise, but I am OCD about topping off EVERY fill and calculating miles/gal EVERYTIME! I average approx low 13sMPG (4x4 winter driving) and low 14sMPG (4x2 summer) with a solid mix of hwy and city in each tank... I just got back from a road trip to Talkeetna, AK and got 18.9MPG!!!!!!!!!! I'm SUPER stoked on those numbers b/c I'm running the 31s AND have the big Yakima box on top and the Thule bike rack on back!!!
-
You can but you will need to do a little trimming... I WISHED the tire places I checked had 32s but they all had to specia order them. I say go with the 32s!!! The Bridgestone Revo's are a good all terrain tire for both winter and summer. PLUS Costco has $100 off Bridgestone right now with $15 off per tire install!!! FYI

I LITERALLY just posted all your answers to your questions two days ago... it's in two threads LOL Here you go- http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=30886

Posting before and after pics on photobucket right now... look for my build thread shortly!

Spend the extra on the AC... TRUST ME! You WON'T regret it!

I got my new tires on yesterday and got it aligned today. I TOTALLY needed the wheel spacers! After we backed the truck out of the bay I looked at it and the tire was rubbing on the lower strut mount spring plate. I decided to try the spacers and as we pulled it back in we HEARD it rubbing. We put the 1.5" spacers in and WALL-LA! No more rubbing issues... yet. After the camber alignment and front end was done I need to double check to make sure it's still not rubbing, but I think I'm all set. I was looking at the Jeep's front sway bar QR system and I TOTALLY think one can be made for our Pathfinders. It will require some simple welds to mount the bracketing systems... anyway, I'm going to start working on this ASAP so I can get them on the market for resale LOL "stay tuned"

Locking Hub Install With Pictures
mattyrides07 replied to Oregonian's topic in R50 FAQ's & Pinned Topics
Just want to say my stock studs were PLENTY long enough when I put my Warn Hubs on my R50 yesterday. I just kept the new ones in the bag LOL -
I just put my AC lift on and already notice a WORLD of difference! FYI- You'll need camber bolts!
-
Well, guys... I put my kit on yesterday!!! It WAS REALLY easy! I did it by myself but a couple of times needed to ask guys who were around for an extra set of hands. I wanted to take pictures of the install but my hands were so dirty immediately after I started I couldn't even answer my phone- let alone take pictures. I did have a couple hang ups with the install which I'll go over in my "build thread". I took LOTS of before and after pics too. I'm going to get wheel spacers now so that I can throw tires on to my stock wheels this afternoon. I decided to go with 31x10.5x15 due to it being a good balance between economical mpg and off road use (plus NOT ONE place in town has 32s LOL). Also, I met a dude yesterday with a Jeep and he has a "detachable" sway bar that he disconects before off roading and reconnects it easy afterwards before he hits the road home.... anyone know of these? Also, will putting a "limit strap" on my arms stop the dropping snap I hear when I go over speed bumps?

What size wheels/tires are you running? You running the same tire for winter and summer?
-
WOO!!!! It F-I-N-A-L-L-Y ARRIVED TODAY (22 days after ordering)!!!! They are in 3 boxes and one SERIOUSLY looks mangled like a crumpled paper bag LOL(I'm thinking it's the spring box). I'll take lots of pics and post them later. I'm going to call the auto shop place on base tomorrow in hopes to rent out a bay within the next couple days. To be clear (in case I'm forgetting something, hopefully someone will chime in): I got the AC 2" lift coils, KYG struts, bilstin shocks, OEM strut mounts, OEM spacers and OEM... (can't remember right now, but I got 6 items TOTAL from Nissan for about $220), Warn hubs, and camber bolts. Lastly, I'm going to order new wheels and tires- are 32 x 12.5's too big??? Anyone have any input on tires that are good for summer AND SNOWY winters??? Thanks!
