  1. Block heaters, Oil pan heaters, battery blankets... all help out immensely during the winter. But they are really not needed until about -25 (from my experiences anyway)if you have them in already, great! use em! but If you dont, you could just throw some Synthetic 5w-30 in and make sure your antifreeze is rated to about -40, and that your battery will start once the temps dip bellow 20. Its also a good idea to check your washer fluid and put some freeze resistant stuff in. (its not pretty when the washer fluid jug cracks) Alot of people up here just throw synthetic oil in and use a battery blanket.
  2. So a few months after I sold my lil Jimmy to my ex gf, I bought it back (for way cheaper) and decided I wanted to turn it into a convertible mud bogger and beach cruiser. So I took the saw to it, cut the roof off, and all the other crap I did not need. Old picture, The interior is now fully bed lined and the roll bar is installed, The only problem I'am having now is trying figure out what to put in the holes where the support pillars were, I was thinking of making a Styrofoam cut out and then filling it with spray foam. but iam not exactly sure how strong that would be, Currently the whole back panels shake hard when I slam the door, and thats not good. Any suggestions would be awesome!! Also Its been sanded down and primer'd! Iam still trying to figure out what to paint it. I was thinking forest green or something like that. If anyone wants to suggest a color =D
  3. That was my first vehicle. 88 GMC jimmy (Also known as tank) it leaked oil in about a billion different places, but it always ran for me, Would take it everywhere and anywhere drove it for 3 and a half years until I got my pathy, I just recently bought it back from my friend, and cut the roof off it. (turning it into a lil buggy)
  4. No its still high school kids mocking everything haha. I enjoy the rage comics very much, (granted I havnt been out of highschool very long) lol
  5. Just curious to see if anyone uses reddit here, Been on it a couple months myself now
  6. Before the snow was able to settle on the ice =) You might have all seen this on TSN or the news. Super fun when you have a tarp.
  7. Depending on the time my pants came out of the dryer, i could have up to 5 peices of lint in each pocket!
  8. Whitehorse, Yukon and we say them differently, the ones ive noticed here (and i do it myself) are Long and Lawn.
  9. Check the distributor aswell! if its loose it can make your vehicle idle real high, or real crappy, Worth a check if your under the hood. my pathfinders came loose when i was messing with the harmonic balancer this summer n it was idling at about 1800 when ever i turned it on! Worth a look anyway haha
  10. Does this problem happen in drive at all? or just when reversing, Does it happen all the time? or once in awhile? Do you have crappy oil in it lol? the whole "Shaking when it starts" almost sounds like crappy oil that is cold and takes a few seconds before it actually starts flowing.
  11. Ive decided iam going to "Borrow" E-Rocks idea and put frame wire over for protection. Soon as its warm enough outside to feel the fingers I hope to start on these! Thanks for all the ideas guys!!
  12. I bought my pathfinder In March for $3500 from Toronto,Ontario. then drove it back to the Yukon. Only had 1 owner and he put 132,584 on it! iam at about 149 with it now. How much did you all get yours for!?
  13. Ive got 2 Fusion 12" and a farely big amp. Set up takes a little over half of my cargo space. Browsing the interwebs abit today i noticed they now make door size speakers that fit the side of your door speakers. Has anyone ever heard or tried these before? iam abit skeptical, but those would be nice to consider for a future project.
  14. Its coming to the time of year when I actually need the back cargo spot of my pathfinder for..well cargo. Currently I have my 2 12 inch Subwoofers and a amp back there. I dont really wanna take them out everytime i plan on moving stuff so ive been looking at ways to hide them or cover them up without making to much rattle. I thought id ask the people of npora how they have there subs hidden or covered up! I'am likely thinking of making a new box for them and then covering the woofers with something. Also if anyones got ideas. I would love you all for ever! =) Also if anyones found good places to hide them. like say in the panneling. or anything crazy like that! =D Thanks and sorry for all the text haha!

  16. Alot of Moose/Elk Hunting up here, ive never shot one myself, but been on plenty of sucessfull trips. I'am at the age where i can now survive a hard day of mountain climbing so pretty excited for the summer to come around. Ive probably got around 200 Grouse/tarnegan under my belt now. pretty much all ive shot lol. Does hitting deer count btw? =D
  17. Snowing again today, only about -15, and about 4 inches so far.
  18. Went to the Summit yesterday for a little boot on my sled, Theres almost 3 feet of powder before you hit the hardpacked stuff. Got stuck about 500 times trying to hill climb with my M8. I think theres about 3 and a half feet in town right now. Its snowing pretty hard right now to so that could grow! =P
  19. I got a framed "The Kramer"(seinfeld)picture, and socks from my GF and a 15er from my Roommate, I was quite pleased with my Xmas!! Because you can never have enough beer and socks.
  20. Id just keep it in 4x4 when the roads are icy. with the front tires pulling, its alot harder to spin out.Studs are great, But once you get into areas where its shoveled regulary, they wear out really fast
  21. For those of you that have that wonderful season we call winter, id though if try and share some tricks ive learned (and alot of you probably already know) to help you, and the wallet. Start with the obvious right? Oil: The lower the viscosity the better during the cold winter months the better, 5w-30 or 0w-30 is recommended. you can run 10w-30 in the winter but your truck will work harder to get that oil moving thus using up more gas. Antifreeze: Antifreeze testers are about 20 bucks and they can tell you if your antifreeze is good enough for the winter or not, if not you'll have to replace, Its best just to buy a jug of pure antifreeze and mix with water yourself, (cheaper usually, and you can add more Antifreezee then water, Which is what you want when the temps start going down) Washer fluid: Not usually on a persons list of fluids to check, but you should. it will freeze, and it will blow that plastic holding tank up, and it will be messy. usually about 10 bucks for a big jug of -45 stuff. Transmission: Good idea to check this and top up or flush if needed, especially if you plan to be off the plowed roads, transmissions get cold, specially when they are buried in snow, you'll notice this when you go to switch gears and it feels sluggish, Transmission heaters are available but not needed. Gas- Nope i aint kidding gas needs to be looked after during the winter to, when you fuel up at the gas station you are also adding moisture from the big gas tanks underground, that builds up,and usually freezes to the top of your gas tank and it will eventually melt adding water to your gas and i dont need to get into the specifics about that being bad. Keeping your gas tank full helps alot, easier to put 5 bucks in all the time then to add 85 bucks once a week. another way is to add a bottle of gasline antifreeze every fill up, there about 12 bucks for a six pack. Heaters and blankets: Getting a battery blanket will help your vehicle so so so much in the winter. the colder it is, the less cranking power your battery will have, making your starter work harder and causing alot of wear. about 25 bucks for a good one. Just do it. Oil pan heaters are also a very good investment and they take about 10 min to install. On cold cold mornings. your oil will look like molasses in january, THUS making your poor little engine work hard to get that oil flowing! The unfortunate thing is oil pan heaters are usually 50+ bucks but quite worth the money in the long run. Block heaters, quite simply the best heater to give your vehicle the best chance in the winter. Keeping the block warm keeps everything warm (NOT ENOUGH THOUGH) Having a block heater,Battery blanket and a oilpan heater will keep your engine nice and toasty for those cold winter mornings. of course there is alot more heaters you can add to different parts of your vehicle, but not needed. Interior heaters! not needed, but loved! They are about 60 bucks at most stores and will heat the interior of your vehicle when its plugged in. Its a little excessive as your trucks usually warm after being warmed up. but who doesnt like extra heat Amiright!? Snow!: Brush it off, windows, roof, fender flares, get it off!! It melts, it re freezes, your doors will stick, the interior trim will rip, wipers will freeze. its terrible! think its going to snow at night? lift your wipers up so snow doesn't stick to them. was your vehicle equipped with a rear defrost? I'd recomend not using it. that frost melts and drips down and then re freezes. spend the 30 seconds and scrape it off. Driving in the winter: little more complex then the summer of course! as a given, give yourself space from the other vehicles around you.. take that extra 5 min getting to your destination. speed limit says 50? great! do 40-45. truck going sideways? dont panic! dont hit the gas, dont hit the brakes. Dont smash your steering wheel the other direction, it happens alot( even with winter tires) let off the gas, and counter steer appropriatly, dont crank the wheel to hard or you'll likely just go sideways that way after. The slower you're going, the less likely you are to be sideways so just take that 5 extra minutes on getting to work or where ever. A very very handy tool for winter driving is! your gears! gearing down helps alot when stopping (even in automatics)this trick isnt to be used all the time though. it causes extra work on your transmission. so use it only when you need to. hills, pulling trailers..exc. Pack your truck accordingly, its about 25 bucks for a good winter emergency kit and its better to be safe then sorry. Its a good idea to add to this kit though.. Better gloves,a toque, some snack bars, (I like to add a small mickey of fireball to mine, Stay warm!) a extra pair of boots/snow pants is always a great idea aswell, especially if your stuck. Might be driving off road? take a bag of kitty litter with you. INSTANT TRACTION! sand works, but not as well as kitty litter. Overall winter isnt that bad a season to be in, it just takes abit of time to prepare for. and the time taken is worth it if you have ever been in trouble during the winter months. If i forgot anything, please add! Safe driving boys and girls!
  22. Id go with a Frost Plug block heater, While ive never had a diesel. ive always heard they help keep your glow plugs somewhat what during the colder days. Most of the Mine trucks run block heaters up here, i couldnt help yah as to where the frost plug would be though, sorry
  23. http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zJWA3Vo6TU I like this one
  24. So its been raining, and raining, and raining here all week, until yesterday night! So I went out and finally took a look for that creaking sound. I'am quite positive that its my ball joints being worn and not having any grease in them anymore. Sadly I have to buy new ones as mine dont have grease nipples =(
