Potential Brake Failure with 31 tires?
ModiFinder replied to ModiFinder's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I figured it was exaggerated to avoid legal issues later. edwinsyip: what should I expect in handling? how much of a difference is it? -
I just got this warning on a website regarding 31' tires for my 97 SE. "Warning! When changing tire sizes, we recommend staying within 3% of the diameter of the original tire. Any more than this and you face the risk of brake failure." Does anyone here have any knowledge of this? I was about to buy the tires and it scared the crap out of me! This is the site with the info: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit

Taro. Thanks again. I have been on the fence for over a month now and I think the comments on this post just pushed me over to the Geolanders. They are $113 per tire vs $155 for the Duelers and budget is a constraint.

Those are awesome pics!

Thanks for posting this. I have just been flexing the Google search on the site looking for tires and I am square between the Geolander AT/S and the Duelers Revo 2. I have to say this forum seems to be split down the middle and I am needing a tie brake! Pics would be good. Did you find any rid difference going with a bigger tire? Since you have the SE you should have not noticed a difference with the power too much because of the 4.6 ration in the transmission but it would be good to know if you saw anything there too. And pictures would be awesome (x3)

I just go this done a couple months ago and paid for it (I had not found NPORA yet). It cost $900 for parts and labour but you I am in Canada and I had taken it to the dealer.

I started using rain-x because one of my neighbours recommended it and I have to say that if you live in a place where it rains a lot (like Vancouver) you need to get this stuff. I costs about $10 per bottle which should last you a couple of years and it kicks ass. It will not matter what type of wipers you have!

I am doing the same thing. I also need to replace the shocks and struts and I am wondering if I should get the OEMs too.

Thanks for the link.

Nice work!

Thanks for this pointing to this article. It helps the newbies to figure out thing work. Has anyone one seen things like this for the R50? I am starting to realize that there are some nuance of difference between the models and I want to find more stuff about the R50 SE.

Web developer right now but mostly business development. Father of three (this is the hard job)

Thanks Hawzzy, This helps. I have been trying to figure out how I make sure that the car works for both applications. I am finding the OEM parts very soft and every time I put something the back it sinks (which could also be because they are done). This makes me wonder if it would be OK to replace the shock/struts now and then do the coils later when I have the cash for that.

as a newbie, I have been afraid to ask too much so I tried the search and well.... So then I remembered a trick from our good friends at Google. I use google to search this site by doing the following: If my question is: "what are the best biggest tires I can put on my stock rig?" you just have to go to google and enter the question followed by "site:http://npora.ipbhost.com" Like this: "what are the best biggest tires I can put on my stock rig site:http://npora.ipbhost.com" Then google knows to limit the search to our forum. These are the results for that.

I like the snow and the crazy driving!

Looks AWESOME! I think I have been wondering about it until this post. Couple of questions? Was the difference between medium and heavy how hard the shocks are (where heavy is refers to harder)? And is the ride any harder with the medium? I want to make sure that the car is family friendly in the end.

That looks great. I just got the car and I am still trying to find good places around Vancouver. Thanks for the info.

Danyur, Thanks for the info on the rims. It is good to know the little quarks of the car. Years ago I had a friend that would get lots of grass in the breaks every time he road through a field.
