  1. Here is another version. I think I really like this one. Fewer passengers but more utility. Guess I could always build a removable back seat and put on a cloth top for passengers...... LOL Have to add roll bars and tough bumpers.....

  4. I solved my ABS issue. Turned out it wasn't the ABS system. I did notice my brakes were a little mushy but not unreasonable. And in regular driving I really didn't notice the lack of rear brake pressure. There was a leak in the brake line over the axle. Very small and I didn't see any leak evidence because it had found it's self a sneaky path down a suspension bracket. When I checked the brake reservoir (for the 5th time) I decided to try and fill it even tough it looked full. The full "look" was simply a stain on the plastic. I feel stupid because that stain has caught me before on other vehicles. Anyway..... replaced brake line, bled the rear system (including ABS unit), hammered the brakes on a gravel road a few times to activate the ABS. The ABS light stayed on until I drove it for about another km. Which makes sense because it needs time to sense and reset. Considering what came out when I bled the brakes I think I will be bleeding the entire brake system very soon. Besides, I like to bleed the brakes about a week after I change a line anyway. Now to work on the broken bleeder nipple..... UGH!!!
  5. I've noticed a HUGE difference in fuel consumption depending on the speed... and it's consistent on both our Pathys. If I keep the speed around 80-90-100 km/hr and make sure it has shifted down I get great fuel economy (for a 4x4). As soon as I cross the 100-110 km/hr barrier it sucks fuel like crazy. 120+ km/hr down the highway..... forget it, you may as well be throwing $'s out the window every few minutes. HA! So when travelling any distance I take the scenic route. Nice drive, less traffic and saves me $$$$. I have noticed that when my wife drives it she doesn't notice if it has shifted down or not. Many times even at lower speeds it is revving in the higher gear. From my delivery truck days I learned to accelerate and then ease off of the gas to let it shift down. If this is the case for anyone else, if you are driving at a speed just before the shift point it would be costing you a lot of fuel. Manual transmission would solve this. Then you could shift early and idle everywhere you go. Just wouldn't get there fast.
  6. I check my consumption by filing up & recording the kms, running it to about 1/8 tank then filling up and comparing the fill litres to the difference in km. I'm not so sure running your tank dry is a good thing. Besides, who wants to walk (as you said). :-)
  7. Apparently this is a know issue with these trucks. I think I remember a recall or warranty notice for it. When I bought my '95, the gauge cluster had been replaced due to this. But it didn't fix the problem. It is still an issue. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread 'cause I need to fix it too!
  8. In digging through info and manuals I read something about the brakes causing a malfunction (I think)???? Besides, I want to check them anyway.

  11. Barking 33's..... now that sounds fun!!! On a 15-20yr old vehicle I'm beginning to think stripping it down to bare minimum may not be a bad idea. A battery, a Megasquirt and hardwired lights..... what else do you need??? HA!
  12. You were too quick... I was editing the post trying to figure out inserting the pic rather than a link. HA! Yes I kept it grounded. Tried different ground points and even different wires to ground it. Three trips up and down the road too.... UGH!
  13. After digging again and removing some plastic I finally found the correct plug (white in picture) So I ran the vehicle for about 5 min over 40 kph and grounded the test plug. No code flash, trouble lights just stayed on. Now the fun begins..... I'll start with crawling under and checking visually. Then pull the real wheels to look for more obvious stuff. If it turns into a control unit issue ($$$) then this truck may become a non-ABS Pathy.

  15. This is what I figured, but I didn't want to make any assumptions..... thanks for verifying this. :-) I guess I will have to dig around more to find the proper connector. I have the procedure in the manual.... just sorting out the plug.

Cruise Roof rack Rear wind deflector Rear tire carrier Power windows doors LSD Power/cruise transmission switch Can't think of anything "special" though. It did have some fancy decals on the side???   18. I'm dealing with ABS issues..... To check the trouble codes, the Chilton manual (pgs 9-24 &9-25) tells me to ground the check terminal while the engine is running. Problem is that the book illustrates a 6 pin connector with one empty. It's not the same as my connector on my '95. I've done the grounding trick on other vehicles and it works well. Has anyone tried this? Anything I've read online suggests that you have to go to the ECU (under the pass seat) for codes. Thanks

  20. I've done some searching and there doesn't seem to be a lot on ABS here. One question I have: Can I simply bypass and/or remove the ABS? My thoughts are that, for an off road truck, I want as little as possible to go wrong. Loosing rear brakes due to a sensor or a solenoid isn't worth the risk on an incline.... not just for ABS. It seems to me it's pretty straight forward. Are there any issues with this? Thanks (remember I'm a Pathy newbie)
  21. I had an experience with a strange smell like that and it did turn out to be the exhaust heat under the drivers feet cooking the mat. I want to re-route the exhaust anyway so I put a temporary loose 1/4" plate under the mat. HA!
  22. The fuel smell on both of our Pathys turned out to be a leak in the lines at the attachment to the frame on the passenger side. Behind the cross member in the middle of the frame. It's where I've consistently found the worst corrosion for the fuel and brake lines. The bracket holding the lines may be too rusty to unbolt but you can simply pry it open from the top to separate the lines. For a quick fix you can cut out the bad section and splice in a piece of fuel hose (which every good home mechanic keeps around... :-) ) until you get it replaced. Hose clamps are good enough to hold it since the fuel pressure isn't very high. Make sure you connect the hose to a clean section of fuel line (or the best you have) or it will leak past the clamps.
  23. I really can't see too much that makes it special. Side running bars and a few bells and whistles. Not leather or anything. I'll keep the edition plate on though, just because it's cool. HA! The bumpers I made myself. High tensile steel. I think they rock, the wife not so much. HA!!!!
