  1. I currently I have mine laying on the floor behind the passenger seat. However, I have a 2-door and I keep the rear seats folded down -- so that option might be out for you 4-doorer's out there... I am planning on mounting the fire extinguisher to the rear spare tire mount...but again many of you might not have that layout. I worry that it will make the fire extinguisher less accessible...but I'll just have to be extra quick on my feet if something bad ever does happen (God I hope not...) If anyone is interested I'll post pics of the modified spare tire mount in the future...
  2. GhostPath did a good job of addressing your questions..but I'll throw in my 2 cents as well. 1) That switch (in my Pathfinder it is a button found on the automatic gear level) allows the engine to hit higher RPM's before the transmission will upshift to the next gear. Like GhostPath said...makes you go fast...but bad on the MPG...and also not so good for the tranny (and other aging parts). I wouldn't use it if I was in your situation... 2-4) Yeah...unfortunately our auto trannys aren't going to last as long as those little miracle engines Nissan blessed us with. Best advice would be a.) stick on a tranny cooler (maybe help it live longer) b.) get the tranny rebuilt (lots of $$$) c.) wait until it dies and get yourself a 5 spd swap. 5-7) GhostPath's response was right on...
  3. Yep...I know Cherry Hill. I'm in southeastern PA -- Kennett Square in Chester County. Definately get him on the forums! And maybe I'll see him on the trials. There's a few other folks on here that go to Paragon/Roush Creek...I'll probably make my way up there one of theses days. (I usually just mess around on a few trials and what-not near my house -- but it's trespassing so I gotta be careful!)
  4. Wow! That's a nice looking Xterra. You should post some more pics of it with a description of mods.
  5. Welcome...if you look around you'll see a few guys with coils in the front. I think we'd all like to SAS our Pathy's lol. Take a look at AK9849cy and 87Pathy...they have some amazing rigs if you're thinking of going real big some day. There's other too on the forum...just they came to mind first.
  6. Hmm...just saw Simon's post above mine (he must have posted it as I was typing mine)...if that theory is correct where should we go to get said TPS sensor? Don't bother saying junkyards...my local one doesn't have any old Pathy's...but would Autozone/Pep Boys/NAPA/etc carry such a part for our rigs? How much should we expect to spend, and where is the sensor located. I know that's a lot of silly questions...but you guys can handle it!
  7. Wow...you are describing the exact same problem I have been having over the last month or so. The engine seems like it wants to stall when you hit the gas from a slow rolling start, and shifting is delayed and/or rough. Also, as you mentioned, the problem doesn't occur all the time. As mzxtreme brought up, in my case the magic shift button is not depressed (I pretty much never hit it)...as I believe that just allows the RPM's to climb to the super-WD21-acceleration-mode. Anyway, my best guess was that it was the old friction clutches wearing out, causing delayed shifting and allowing RPM's to drop too low (hence the near-stall sensation). However this was just a guess as I had not thought of the shift selenoid being bad. That seems like it could be a potential problem as well. If anyone knows definately what the problem could be and how to fix it (minus a tranny swap) it would be appreciated. We could make two "customers" happy then!! Until then I'll just keeping running my rig until the tranny gets too tired and old and finally gives in. Then maybe a 350 swap??? I'm sure the lift and tires I'm putting on this weekend (or next) won't help the problem, but OH WELL! Laters, Rusty
  8. and nice lookin Terrano. I like the graphics!
  9. Defiant, I just sprayed some of the frame and a good part of the underbelly (especially under the rear seats) with a rubberized undercoating I picked up at NAPA. I figure it should do a pretty good job of protecting from further rusting down there. I had already done some patch-work to fight the existing rust. Trust me, fight the rust before it appears or as soon as it appears. Small rust spots can turn into gaping holes if left unattended!
  10. Hello and welcome aboard! You'll learn a lot here...I sure have!
  11. Great! Do you remember which was the "in" line and which was the "out" line?
  12. Before anyone says anything...yes I've searched the forums, and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. If you know of a thread that answers my following questions, feel free to point me in that direction and I apologize in advance for the re-post! Ok, so I bought an external tranny cooler this weekend from NAPA, and was going to install. First problem was that the tranny cooler I bought was just too big to fit up in front of the AC condenser...not a problem though as I bought the biggest one they had so I'll just return it tomorrow and get the next size down which will fit (I already measured to make sure!). Problem 2) No drain plug for the transmission. That's a real PITA! So I was wondering if instead of dropping the transmission pan (which has a few thing blocking it, so dropping won't be as easy as it should be) I could flush out the transmission fluid another way. Two hard lines come out from the transmission and head towards the front of the vehicle. Near the front of the vehicle they are connected to rubber hose (which go to the radiator). If I disconnect the hose I should be able to change the ATF that way, correct? I could have one of the lines running into a bucket and the other line I could feed new ATF via a funnel while the engine is running. Sound ok? And just so I don't have to use the old trial-and-error method, does anyone know which is the "out" line and which is the "in" line? One of the lines comes from the driver's side of the transmission and the other comes from the passenger side. Last question: Any idea of how much ATF our transmissions will hold? I bought 6 quarts so I figure that should be plenty, but it would be nice to know how much is supposed to go in...lol. THANKS A LOT. Your answers are much appreciated!
  13. OUCH! That must have been one hell of a ride!
  14. Nice find I wish my local junkyard had some WD21 Pathfinders!
  15. I chose Mud and Fireroads. Rocks tend to break stuff, and that makes me mad...but mud is always fun and fireroads (or forestry roads...same kinda thing really) are the only other place I can go offroading for free... and yeah I think cornfields/farm fields should be added to the list
  16. Well, how are you advertising it? What's your asking price? (maybe too high and scaring potential buyers away) Are you suppling a decent picture in the ad? (that always helps)
  17. new toy = *drooling* ...gotta luv the gixxers
  18. Hi y'all, So I've been a member for a while...but never actually formally introduced myself (or written that many posts for that matter). Anyway, so far I like what I see; seems like a great forum with a lot of friendly/helpful people. So I'm planning on stickin around and maybe becoming a regular... As the profile states, I'm from the great state of Pennsylvania...and am the proud owner of an 1988 Pathfinder. Got it in high school, and so far it's been great. Fixed up some rust problems, but other then that it remains stock...for now. I'm planning a lift+tires+goodies this summer even though money is tight (in college right now). We'll see how that goes... Thanks to everyone for the help/encouragement thus far...I'll cya 'round -Colin
  19. buy RoughCountry's package then (http://www.roughcountry.com/nissan_hardbody.asp) and chuck the shackles? Then go out and get some JGC? sound good?
  20. AC's UCA's do nothing? They don't correct for BJ angles, camber etc? If they don't they're off my list...
  21. I'm asking myself the same kind of questions as DukeDuke. I was originally going to go for a 3'' suspension lift, but have now decided against spending that much on my ageing Pathy. I'm now thinking of just doing a small lift (1.5" or whatever) with 31's. Where could I get some coilspacers for my Pathy? It's either that or these: http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/shop/i...ed61dd0342b5ccf Either way I'll then crank the front T-bars and buy an idler arm brace from AC or Calmini. What's the "CL" that you mentioned??? Thanks.
  22. New to the whole 4wheelin scene...started with and still enjoying my 88 Pathy... I actually tend to have the tendency to under estimate my Pathfinder's abilities offroad...but so far it's always gone where I've asked it to without a complaint. Now that's a good reliable truck...just a bit rusty...lol (bondo, steel, and painted patches have fortunately helped with that problem though) My best story with the Pathfinder isn't really an offroad story at all. I was racing around some dirt mountain roads, in 2WD drive of course, getting her nice and sideways in the corners...and hitting speeds of 65-70mph. Needless to say that's definately pushing a Pathfinder to its limits on narrow dirt roads. Anyway, on one of the corners I overcorrected and ended flying off the road and into a boulder at about 50mph. I was cussing left and right at myself. I was absolutely positive that I had just destroyed my front suspension or steering...something must have broken with an impact like that. But I got out and the only damage was a blown front tire. Boy was I lucky. That was my realization that these things can take a beating...
  23. Someone stole my driver side vent/grille a while back as well. I don't get it. I agree making your own custom vents are the way to go, but just in case anyone really really wants the stock replacement go to: http://www.courtesyparts.com/pathfinder/wd21_index.html peace
