  1. Cheers all my fello Path-o-holics I have a question dealing with the upcomming lift i plan to do on my pathy. I have read, reread on jeep spring swaps, as well as re-indexing my torch bars. I have written up a document for doing this from these forums . Either way, On the 3rd of april im hitting the junkyard to pull some springs, and any other parts(I constently keep hoping ill find a pathy with a lift, but no luck ) and I was wondering if anyone has done the spring swap, crancked torsion bars, AND replaced a-arms? From my understaning, this is basically what you get with the calmini lift, ie springs, a-arms, t-bars, and shocks. I was hoping to just replace a-arms, and get jeep springs. any advice? scara 89 pathy, rebuilt, repainted, interior done
  2. missed ya by "that much" lol I love moab, and the whole four corners area. I live in albuquerque, nm, and my inlaws live in farmington. I was just up there last week, and me and brother-in-law, took a ride up to moab for the day, and did some 4x4'n . Me and wife are actually looking at going up there in may for a nissan type jambory. there is the link http://gonemoab.alpinetribe.com/b2/blog1.php/2009/04/08/area-info have fun
  3. I have had this issue as well, and it was the nylon nipple(stripped)that connects to you gauge cluster. This is what i did to rectify. disconnected screws, wiring harness's, etc to get access of gauge cluster(takes maybe 5min). You will see a cable the connects to spedo, when removed. using a needle nose plier, pull out little nylon nipple(there is also a little coil behind it, dont loose) Inspect, things to look for are the nipple is stripped, or broken. if this looks like the case replace(not sure if autopart stores offer it, mine didnt, so i went to junkyard and paid 1.00 for it) replace, with spring, and put dash togther, woot done) or you can replace the whole cable(my orielies auto carried it) it's not really that difficult. It goes through the firewall, down the passenger side in the engine compartment, and connects to the tranny on the passender side. Takes no longer than 1 hour to completely replace cable. I would also take a look at cable to make sure it is functioning.
  4. Tomorrow is Upull-IT day hehe, of wrote extensive notes on the spings, and will run down there, caliper in hand and look for my springs, thanks alot guys for all the helpfull info. will post pic's when done. scara
  5. Thanks for the feedback folks, I think i found the problem, seems my 12v wire was touching the exhaust manifold, and grounding out, I replaced wire, and secured it. I also verified all my leads, contacts were tight and clean, seems to have done the trick. Thanks scara
  6. Make a long story short, my 89 pathy(vg30i) is having a problem with the starter. Sometimes It doesnt run, i can hear the solinoid click, but it doesnt turn over. if i keep figiting with the starter button(the keyswitch went out, so starter is wired directly to a push button switch) sooner or later it will turn over. This starter is about 1month old, and I have replaced the battery, and put a new pushbutton, but non of this fixed the problem. any help, idea's etc. as a note, i sometimes think that my electrical system is loading down, but this is just a hunch.
  7. So thats what my pathy should look like with doorhandles! lol Actually ill be hitting the U-pull it yard, and im going to find something in good condition(i hope) and make it fit my pathy. Ive alread refinishe the door panels(except the carpet on the panels) and will finish the carpeting/trim when i have handles. ill post pics when i do it, so if it works, i get kudos, and i fail horribly, you all can learn from my mistake
  8. Hey all. NOTE: i have an 1989 pathy, with the v6 vg30I with the throttle body injectors! Well time to do some more work on my pathy! I have rebuilt the motor, heads etc. (still need to fix an exhuast stud). But here is my problem. When i put it back in and fired it up it ran rough and doggy, I knew it was vacumm line issues, and some of the sensors, ie for example when i pulled the intake manifold off, the resivor that feed air from the diaphram thingy at the back was clogged(sorry to tired to go grab my chiltons for the name) either way, that was just one of many. My aiv can was completly rusted out, im pretty sure my o2 is dead or dying. So in the end i just capped all the vaccum lines, and it runs like a champ. But i have emmissions comming up in 4.5months so i need to start knocking it out. Any help you guys can give would be a great help. things i need. 1)a emisions diagram i can actually make sense of 2)replacement parts(cheap if possible, im on disability lol) 3)guides, documents etc and lastly anything you think I might need to know or purchase. and things to help me pass imissions Thanks Frank
  9. I prefer thinking of the engineering meeting when they thought it up went something like this eng 1 "How can we make a dependable engine, yet make sure it will break and they will by a new one? Eng 2 says "Lets hide/make the oil filter difficult to get to" Eng 1, "Dang Bob, job security!"
  10. they have the luck of the irish! I live down in NM, and in my back yard you can hear them all the time, funny thing is they are pretty resilent, I hit one last summer when i was out 4x4'n, and it bolted off into the brush, me and my dog ammo went looking for it to make sure it wasnt suffering. We flushed it out like 4 times and it seemed to be ok, I left when it snapped at ammo my dog(he is a wee bit of a thing, terrier cross lol". As a note, I'm not much for them granola crunching berkenstock wearing tree huggers, But I cant judge being that I dress like a punk rocker who mated with a Ghetto Ho lol. On that note, I'm not sure how i would have dealt with it, Probably would have shot it, so in many ways there better folks than me Scara
  11. I completly get the whole lack of $$$ thing . Im going to finish it with laquer, give it a woody look, almost all of the homebuilts are done this way and look awesome. As for windows doors, seals etc...Craigslist ftw, well that and Ive picked up all kinds of stuff, ie molding, trim, even a couple of latchs at the job sites(amazed at what they through away). Cant wait till the payday lol, ohh on that note, I'm trading a computer for a 1970's chopper(motorcycle) lol, did i say i love CL
  12. Ya, It's not really difficult(rebuilding an engine on the other hand lol) It's more just a paitence game. I'm on disability, and find I have alot of time on my hands, also being on a fixed income I find that building a trailer is ALOT cheaper than purchasing one. The sight ive been refering to is http://www.mikenchell.com/forums/index.php This site is full of all kinds of info. Kinda like this site, but for teardrops. On the top of the main paige is links to designs patterns etc. Also Harbor frieght doesnt have a kit for them, but what they do is sale utility trailers. The plans for the HB teardrop are on that sight. It takes the difficult part of "Making, a trailer" out of the equations, so all you have to focus on is the woodwork. IE I dont own any welding gear, and would probably be horrible at it . The thing I really enjoy about these, is the teardrops are relativly inexpensive. We have alot of construction sites here in abq, and ive been grabbing wood stock, wire, etc(with there permision),, The only thing I really need to purchase now is the trailer(getting dec 3 from HF), 3-4 sheets of plywood, and 3 sheets of1/4 inch ply. I have plenty of wood stock now to do the cabinets etc. I figure(because i dont have anything else to do) I should have it finished within,2 months. Regards, Scaramoche
  13. Cheers all, Now that my pathy is running great, I'm starting a new project. I'm building a teardrop camper to pull behind my pathy(i camped every weekend this summer, and really dont want to sleep on the rocky ground here in NM) What i'm currious about is has anyone built one? any advice etc. I'm building the harbor frieght one(the one that uses the trailer they sale). I'm pretty much going to stick to the plans, but make it a bit taller. Regards, Scaramoche
  14. hehe, no robot yet, but im working on it. Ya, I feel ya on the u-pull it runs, on the first of the month ill be there again to pick up some springs hehehe, good info i picked up from here, that and do some work on the torsion bars i think. Scara
  15. mac....pc...bah, LINUX ftw! Long live the penguin
  16. Well first of all I want to say how AWESOME this site is. In many ways I wish I would have found it earlier. I am the proud owner of a 89 Pathy 3.0. I found my pathy about 7months ago. I paid 600.00 for her, and thought she was a steel, a diamond in the rough! Truth be told, her engine was barly fuctioning, she had been in a front end collision(cosmetic). and my family thougth I was nutt's for paying 600. Well she ran for a month, durring which time I got new fenders, and started doing body work, as well as a minor tune up(ie plugs, oil, dist, etc) then whammy the engine died. I spent the next month and a half pulling, rebuilding, and installing said enngine. I hadnt done anything like that in 20 years, so i took my time and did alot of research. Now she runs like a champ, power to boot, and nice throaty sound. I continued on restoring the inside, new carpet, refinished all the interior panel(sanding....lots of sanding, primint and painting). Over that last 3 weeks I finished the body work, primed and painted, and never been so proud of any car Ive owned, and my family is stunned at the end result. BTW Ive probably only put about 1200 into it. Gotta love U-Pull it junk yards! Now I'm on to my new project, Lifting, moding etc, and you guys are full of that info, I especially like the SAS mods.
