  1. Yeah, i had a great week away, although i was exhausted by the time i got home. camping isnt so relaxing when you have to chase a couple of kids around. seems like you never stop doing stuff to get them organised, especially when its freezing and u need to get them showered and in bed early, just to keep them warm. but it was a holiday i needed, havent gone on a holiday for 10 yrs. normaly when i have time off, i sit around at home. I was getting over 900klms to a tank, i tried, but could never get to 1000. only managed just over 700 with the trailer, but i wasnt taking it easy. Gq tank bolts straight in, and holds 94 litres cost me $200 to hire the camper, was from a guy on perth 4x4. it was his own personell camper. hire places want $300 +, and you have to pick it up, and drop it off at a particular time. i had the freedom to pick it up 2 days before i left, and drop it off whenever i wanted, even if i decided to camp a bit longer it was no problem. made it good to be able to take my time to pack it and unpack it without stressing about getting it back. I think if i go away the same time next year, i will be heading north. too bloody cold down south.
  2. Hi guys. just got back from down south, had a ball. rackedup over 1500klm's on the new bighorns. i love em they are a bit noisy, mostly between 70 - 90, but once you get to 100 the engine is humming, and makes more noise than the tyres. they did suck up a bit of power, and use a bit more fuel, but i can live with that, and half of that would be the fact the terry was loaded right up, towing the loaded camper. still cruised along at 110, only started to struggle on the longer hills. the tyres are awsome offroad. hardly any wheelspin in the dirt, when u drop the clutch in first, they just dig in and push forward, they are even good in sand, once dropped downt to 15 psi, drove around the sand dunes near pemberton in 2wd, easily, and after watching a cruiser take 3 attempts to get up calcup hill, getting a bigger, faster run up each time, i drove straight up, low range 3rd, with no effort at all. on the road they feel good, different to the all terrains, but i got used to them quick, and they hang on like glue, even in the wet i had no dramas. Did a heap of 4wdriving in the forests around walpole and pemberton, those places are amazing, tracks everwhere u look, all through amazing forest, all wet and slippery. did a bit of exploring around margeret river, found a track through the bush that goes out to the north side of the river mouth, and follows along the coast, with tracks down to the beaches. never seen anybody on any of the tracks. had a great time camping deep in the forests, but it was bloody cold, and wet as well, but thats part of the adventure. pics to follow soon.
  3. I got a BIG HORN this morning. 4 of them actualy.
  4. It is a bit strange, he normaly gives a progress report regularly, even if progress has gone backwards. im sure he is just carried away doing something.
  5. Hammer worked for now (yes, im dodgy). hopefully i have enough room for the big tyres now. next job is to make some bigger flaps for the back.
  6. i got these rubber flairs and put them on. you can kinda see how close it is, i reckon a bit of gentle convincing with a hammer might get them out of the way.
  7. yep, 31's are gonna tear the flap straight out. its not realy lift thats my problem, it's the wheels i got from Dave. because of the offset, the tyre sticks out further, and on just under full lock, the tyre rubs on the inside of the flap, with my old wheels, it wouldnt of been a problem, because the tyre would be sitting inside the flap. kinda hard to explain, might go out and take a pic. the offset on the wheels is enough for my little 30 x 9.5 tyres to stick out of the guards. but i like em.
  8. Found wgat was rubbing, the inner edge of the mud flap. just another thing to sort out.
  9. Hopefully tuesday morning. i was hoping to have them today at the latest, i wanted to make some bigger mudflaps to cover them properly, and i wanted to make sure i had no issues with clearance anywhere. with the 30 inch tyres i have, something on the front rubs when reversing and turning full lock down u steep gutter. i suspect it is the bit of plastic trim thats under the front bumper. wanted to have everything sorted. tues i will have to get the tyres on, sort out any issues, hopefully make some mud flaps, pick the camper trailer up, load everything up, rush around for the things i have forgotten, and try to get to bed early to get a good sleep, so i can get up at 4am wednesday, to get on the road nice and early. i got some better bulbs for my headlights, philips 60/55w. +50%. cost $24 each, supposedly they put out 50% more light, but use the same amount of power. they have made a big difference to my headlights, they put out a nice clean white light, that extends further down the road. i put one in at a time, to compare the difference, and i was suprised how dull and yellow the standard bulb was. i had to adjust them down, cause people were flashing me, and even though i adjusted them down, i can still see further than i could before. the bulb is a H4 type.
  10. Im keen, i want to test the tyres out.
  11. Cyril, thats an awsome pic of your beast on the beach, how did it go on the sand? i did some reaserch on the tyres im getting, i probably should have done it before i decided to get them. but you know how it is, you walk into a shop, see something you want, and decide u just have to have it. i know it keeps me broke. everybody thats had the maxxiss big horns (tyre name relates to penis size), cant get enough of them, and they all say they would buy them again. only people that knock them, are guys that have got tyres that cost over $300 each, and reckon maxxiss is cheap @!*%, even though they have never had them. so i hope there as good as everyone reckons. i had an interesting thought, apperently cooper tyres a pretty good, heaps of guys in australia have them, including myself, and they all reckon there awsome (i cant complain about mine), but its weird, how on all the forums, including this one, it seems as though americans dont rate them, hardly do you ever see an american 4wd with them on, and not much gets said about them, and hardly anyone recomends them. i just thought that was interesting. mine are 3 years old, and are only half worn, so i cant complain, but i did notice yesterday, a big strip had been ripped off the inner sidewall, all the way to the canvas. the strip was just hanging there, so i araldited it back on. she will be right.
  12. At least they were friendly about it, they reckon they like it, but best to change it before somebody has a cry about it. im dying to get the new tyres. ive decided to definately keep my terrano, i was thinking for ages whether to keep it, or to trade up to a patrol or something. so it looks like im keeping, especially after spending 800 on suspension, and now 800 on tyres. when i get back from holidays, the plan is to get my drz400 licenced, then i can park the terry up everynow and then, and fix things that need to be fixed. next thing i want to do is go through and replace all the rubbers in the suspension, and ball joints etc.
  13. They made me change my avatar, bugger. still havent got my tyres, they assure me that i will have them first thing tomorow morning. Dave, that little bar looks awsome, are you going to make a scale size winch to put in it?
  14. no idea what engine, i just seen the picture, and thought !@*& yeah.
  15. do u reckon a four door, would look good like this?
  16. Matt, you got number 1000, does that mean you win a prize?
  17. Thats awsome. i suppose it wouldnt be to hard to modify it later on to fit in a cradle for a winch. would you mount it were the bumper is normally mounted, or would it need extra bracing from underneath. would doing something similar for the back be just as easy? what program do you use Dave? is it a special one, or something that can be downloade off the net, i could spend hours mucking around designing stuff. Got my rubber flares on, still waiting for the tyres.
  18. Yes please, and one for the back too. painted black would be nice.
  19. What are you going to have it made from Dave? all steel? or alloy bar with a steel cradle for the winch?
  20. Dave, these brake pads are made by remtek, part no: dr0340. did a quick search, and there made by, or sold by CBA. clutch and brake australia. theres no listing for what the part number fits. these ones must be pretty old, cause they contain asbestos. i dont think anyone makes pads with asbestos anymore. still yours if you want them. they could be for the front or the rear, cant tell without taking pads off the car.
  21. Your gonna waste a saturday watching the cats get flogged? when you could be out in the mud? PFFFFFFT shame on you. if im not doing anything monday, i might be able to meet you somewhere, saves driving so far when your all depressed
  22. Im not leaving till wednesday morning now. but im on arvo shift this week. 230 1030. should be at home all day saturday. probably out all day sun. not sure what im up to monday. will be heading down to riverton sometime tuesday to pick up camper, but you will prob be at work. or i could always put them in the post.
  23. All the cars i have worked on, the rotor is only held in by the caliper. sounds dodgy, but it works. usualy they are hard to get off after years of crap getting in there, and making it stick like glue to the hub, but usually a good tap with a hammer free's it up. i might try again tomorow, maybe if i loosen the handbrake right off, it might help. even though my handbrake doesnt work at all, it might just be making it that little bit harder. Alot of cars with disc brakes on the rear, have a drum brake setup inside the disc, for the hanbrake. some cars have a couple of screws that hold the disc on, but there on the front of the disc, and the terry doesnt have them. i will nutt it out.
