  1. I was getting 11mpg before I replaced my clogged up CAT, and my bad O2 sensor. O2 sensor was like $25 from some guy on Ebay. Works sweet. CAT... I had a mechanic put it in and he soaked me ($300 for the part!) Then it went up to like 15mpg. A couple months ago I did an oil change just before a road trip, and tossed in a bottle of Lucas oil treatment. I got 19mpg! I was blown away! A couple tanks of gas later, I was back down to 15. I'm gonna check all my vacuum lines and stuff to see if I can't clean it up a bit.
  2. So, just met a guy that has a rear end off a 1988 Pathfinder that he said he would give to me. I drive a 1990 Pathfinder SE-V6 4X4 with a burnt out LSD. Would this "new" 3rd member be compatible with my Pathfinder? Not sure I even know what I am talking about to be honest. I don't know exactly what my gear ratio is, but the new one is 4.65. Does this mean that if I spin one tire once, the driveshaft spins 4.65 times? Gonna do some more searching on this. My pathfinder has 31" tires, and I am pretty sure it as stock with them. Thanks for your help guys, I almost sold her 2 weeks ago because I counted up all the money I have poured in. Now I am getting excited about a locked rear end. Chris.
  3. As Lightening McQueen would say... "KAPOW!"
  4. I just had my VG30E swapped. No warranty? Sounds like a BAD idea. If he swears it is good, why can't his money back it up? But still, the money for the engine isn't the worst part. The book time is 12-14 hours labour to swap the engine. Ask Slick, it is a big job! Definitely get new exhaust manifold studs. They were pretty cheap from the dealer. Good luck, but wait for an engine with a warranty!
  5. skrillaguerilla I would guess that motor weighs in about 50lbs. Prolly as much as the tire actually. I don't know off the top how much the spare weighs. It's a 31" spare too. Anyone know what the tire carrier is rated to hold? I still have to change the top pin. I got's the parts, but I aint got's the time! I love the rear tire carrier. It's extra storage space. The more junk you can mount on the back, the more junk you can fit inside. Especially necessary if you are THE ride for the guys camping trip.
  6. Just the other day, I was washing the salt of my pathfinder and realized that my spare tire looks pretty crap. So, I scrubbed it down, masked the tire, and painted the rim black. Now it looks sweeter. Friday's my birthday, and I am going fishing! w00t
  7. I use my spare tire carrier for my second engine. It's an old old old Tecumseh 2-stroke, 3 horse outboard for my 14ft canoe. I scored a piece of 1.5" plywood (it is actually 2 pieces screwed together) and a bunch of u-bolts. It takes a few minutes to bolt it on, but it holds my motor high enough that it's out of the way of any ditches I go through, and gives the added benefit of no gas smell in my pathfinder. Just the other day I figured out that I can wrap my chain around the support for the spare tire. Much easier to get to then under the rear seat. I like the idea of closing it in though. Maybe with a lid and a padlock? I will try to post some pic's from my laptop at work tomorrow.
  8. Also, find a local CB radio geek. 88pathoffroad, did you use an SWR meter to check your radio? I don't know much about it, but you should be able to tell from that how much power you are broadcasting. Also, did you tune your antenna? I was going to mount my CB under the stereo as well. Did you just screw up into the plastic, or what 88? http://www.radiomods.co.nz/pro500d510xl520xl.html for the description of how to modify your 520. I had a 520 many years ago, but when I sold my jeep I sold my radios to an old friend. Now I have a new Midland that is apparently easy to mod. Buddy was supposed to give me an 8' whip that I was going to mount on my bush-bar, but it didn't work out.
  9. So you are installing a Redneck Cellphone. I just bought one last night! Magmount is good if you are need to be able to remove it, but an installed antenna is (as far as I know) better. I have a good buddy that used to professionally install 2-way radios in Kamloops, BC who had a lot of info for me. If you go in the bush, the best place for a whip antenna is using an L bracket in the hood on the side opposite your FM antenna as close to the windshield as you can get it. For power, I was going to use a $3, 30amp relay. Connect the power directly from the battery and fuse through the relay and use the accessory power to switch the relay. I also bought a magmount as it is just easier to get it done, but once I am sure I know what I want to do, will be bolting an antenna in the edge of the hood. I can't find any info now, but there are a lot of sites about increasing the max power of your CB. I will post if I find anything for your 520
  10. Are those aftermarket mods on that Nissan? Is it available in kit form for my '90 pathfinder? Sure would shut those fullsize guys up when legs pop out of my pathfinder and I crawl to the top of a rock!
  11. You're in Squamish eh? I'm an electronics technician by day in Port Moody, and have been known to install car stereo's for beer by night in Maple Ridge. What's your week looking like? I am generally free in the evening. Let me know if you are interested, (I know it's a fricken long way to go) and I'd like to give you a hand. If you know what you are doing, it is actually pretty simple to install a new stereo. The 3 power wires you want are 12V hot, 12V in accessory, and ground. The rest of the wires would be the speakers. Heck, email me if you can make it to Maple Ridge tonight, I got nothing planned. gilbank@gmail.com
  12. Best way to clean the mud off the bottom of your pathfinder? Park on top of your lawn sprinkler then go inside for a beer. I find Molson works best.
  13. Philadelphia, PA, eh? My mom is in Reading, PA. I am on the west coast of Canada. Too bad, you have a couple parts I would take. I wonder how much they would charge to ship a rim across the country. I need a matching 5th rim for my pathfinder... OK, I don't technically NEED it, but it sure would be cool.
  14. OK, I am having enough problems with this that I am starting to believe it is not just me. To check the oil when getting gas, I pull out the stick, wipe it off, put it back in, pull it out again, and the dipstick is smeared. Funny thing is, sometimes there is a dry spot on the stick near the end. What the carp? Is it full, is it empty? This was one of the things that helped bake my previous engine. How do y'all get a good measurement? If I put in an oil pressure gage, will it be a good indicator of when I need to do something?
  15. I'm thinking about fabbing up a tray to go under mine. Maybe put a hole in one corner so the oil can drip into an old yogurt container or something. RedPath88, and others with similar setups, do you have to worry about twisting your mounting bracket when reefing on the filters? Or is it skookum enough to handle the torque?
  16. Dude, that sucks. Was it 100% his fault? It sucks to be at fault for something like that. If you are in my neighborhood, I got some beer we can drink while we pull parts off!
  17. Sweeeeet, finally got that sensor only 16 days after I got it. I am a cheap bass-turd, so it was worth the wait. I just hope I can get a normal mileage now. This morning I put in about 48 liters with about 260km on the odometer. I hope to have it in tonight, then post back in a few weeks with an update.
  18. I clicked a few links from your link 88, and found this dual filter kit: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...r=1#Application Will it fit on my '90 SE-V6? Did you hear about the guy that thought he was buying a PS3, but in reality he bought the email address "hotps3s@hotmail.com" or something like that, for $890.
  19. Hmm... I will have to look into it. I unplugged the sensor (in the engine compartment) and it has way more power. I wonder if maybe no signal is better then a wrong sensor? Thanks.
  20. Terrano's are pretty sweet, but are you sure you don't wanna keep saving and buy a Pinzgauer? I should quit my job, get out of Vancouver, move to Edmonton, and join you guys for beer. I make $50K, but can't afford a 3 bedroom townhouse Know anyone in Alberta looking for an electronics geek?
  21. Update: Last night I went on Ebay and bought one from http://stores.ebay.com/GLOBAL-AUTOMOTIVE This guy's got over 10,000 feedback, 99.4% positive. Been a long time since I hung out on Ebay, but MAN that's a lot of happy customers. Anyhow, I ordered myself a sensor for $28 US. After confirming that he does not use UPS (OOoooooh I hate UPS) I ordered one. Shipping works out to $7 USD. After all is said and done, it worked out to $40 something. Seeing as how the cheapest local price I got was $99 CDN, I will wait the week or so that it takes to get here from Florida. I will post an update on my success.
  22. I found the Haynes told you to do a lot of extra work. I almost removed my intake manifold as per haynes until a buddy showed me how to do it. The part where it describes how to change the belt is burried in directions to completely tear down the engine.
  23. Check out 7-zip. It is an open source program so is more likely to be free as in beer (no spyware). Closed source, free programs are quite often free as well, but free as in syphilis. Not the same thing. Ever hear of Gator (now Claria). They wrote the book on invasive spyware. Altools might be OK though, I have never looked into them. OK, looked into them. For what it's worth, their privacy statement looks pretty decent. I don't hate them.
  24. If it's a financial question, that's different. I just spent $3000 getting a new engine. Now I think I need a new O2 sensor. Problem is, I don't have $100. Wait till I tell her I want $300 to buy a small generator to use when I go camping with the guys...
  25. I think my O2 sensor is gone too. My check engine light doesn't work, so I wouldn't be able to run any diagnostics, so I don't know for sure. Basically, everything else is new and I get a lot of hesitation and coughing when I accelerate. It is steadily getting worse, so I should prolly do something soon, eh? Oh, I also get about 12 MPG. Just got back from a road trip and had a message to call Mastercard Security department. Turns out that stopping for gas 3 times in 500KM and 5 hours is suspicious activity. Go figure.
