  1. i would be present while they work if possible bc transmission shops know that people don't really have a clue. Try bringing the point up to them about what you found with the dangling hose.

I just had my transmission done and the transmission shop wanted to rebuild the tranny and it was just my torque converter.

mb it was just the shop i went to anyway goodluck

  2. yea looks like they have done a better job then the previous taurus for sure. doesnt come across cheaply made as the older model was.

i would like to see how reliable this car will be good for ford.

  3. i swapped out my old trans and put one in from a junk yard... I finshed putting everything together and it runs, but when i try and give it some gas to get it going faster it seems to lag engine revs but truck doesnt speed up.

anyone think they know what this could be??

  4. i would try changing your transfer case fluid it helped someone else on this forum.... Also install tranny cooler very good idea.

my pathy was doing this as well and my transmission went also i had no after market cooler...

i have only owned my truck for 3 months, so i dont know how long this has been going on for. might have been a while and the aftermarket cooler may save your bacon

  5. well its a good thing that after the trans flush and transfer case fluid change your truck stoped shifting like that. Bc my truck was having the same problem and then one day the trans went. mb i should have changed the fluid and got and after market cooler.

the thing is i had just bought the truck 3 months earlier and didnt know how long she had been shifting like that for...

so for sure after market cooler seems like a must do.

  6. took this video real quick take as much crap out as possible because it is a pain in the ass. go buy a cheap box end wrench for the torque converter bolts and grind the hell out of it also put the torque converter on the tranny first not the motor also if you can look in the torque converter and mine was missing teeth so i new it was bad. i have a 3 inch BL and it was a pain so good luck

pictures worth a million so a video is worth

yea i having trouble with the torque converter bolts seems the oil pan is in the way.... did you unbolt the tranny and move it to get at the bolts?

  7. I did some searching and found some posts of what my problem/symptom might be.. I was driving one day and all of a sudden it was a small bang/thud like it popped out of gear... had to coast to the shoulder. None of the gears work, doesn't matter what the transfer case is in... motor jus revs. It was all of a sudden and it wasn't the dreaded reverse signs of going out that your transmission is going to die thing...

So i've read that it could be either be input shaft or the torque converter. Anyone care to chime in that has had this type of thing happen to them.

Also has anyone changed an input shaft on an auto? Difficult? I've done motor swaps, mustang t5 tranny rebuilds, etc... so i am mechanically inclined..

    mahalos.

    Keith

interesting the exact same thing happened to my pathy as well...

I think it could be the torque converter, didnt think of the input shaft ill have to check that out as well.

My truck still had park other than that all the other gears were gone.

  8. how did you go about getting at the mounting bolts for the y pipe. they are pretty high, and in a tight spot.

I hope its the torque converter, but is there away to figure out if my transmission is good when i pull it out.

  9. also i was wondering if anyone would know if this problem would be the tourque converter or something else... I was driving the truck and made a corner going uphill and then my transmission felt like it came out of gear and in to neutral and after that made a funny noise kinda of whine when i pushed the gas. Park still works but no other gears are working. To make matters worse after that my starter became stuck on making a horrible whinning noise. any ideas im thinking torque converter and perhaps flywheel as well.

  10. they have to come out. if you are 4wd you will have to drop the torsion bar crossmember also to clear the t-case

oh yea i was looking at that and was kinda hoping that i wouldn't have to take that off. i have never done this before on any vehicle and was wondering if there was anything else i should take to make this easier.

ihave taken this out so far:

    rear drive shaft

    4x4 drive shaft

i have 2 of the torsion bars out

    skid plate off

wondering if i have to take out the y pipe along with the rest, looks like it is in the way

  11. Im taking the transmission out of my pathy and was wondering do the torsion bars have to come right out in oder for me to drop the transmission?

or is there a way just to disconnect one side? So the diff can swing down.

  12. Be careful doing this. By charging money, you may be liable for any damages/injuries incurred during the recovery. If you do it for free and let the owner know there might be damages beforehand, it will stand up a bit better in court (if you get sued). I would make them sign a waver and hook the gear up to their own car. I know it's ghey because you're just trying to help someone out, but this is law-land and there are lots of bored lawyers out there right now.

I agree with Kingman, who cares if you've helped out a domestic. They have pulled me out of more trouble than I have. If anything, i've pulled more nissans out of trouble, but that's because I run trails with them more often.

changed the topic yea your right all 4x4's are equal sry for any hurt feelings. I just wanted to read some recovery stories.....

  13. Dude!! You made your GF walk through that muck?? She could have driven... :D

You have not even begun to test the limits!!

    Feels good, don't it??

    B

lol yea she is my camera woman and she loves me... ummm at least im pretty sure she does, mb not if she read about what you wrote.

  14. oh thanks i was thinking of doing the suspension first.. As for importing you think it would be easy to get stuff from austrailia i have never bought anyhting overseas so... no matter what i guess im paying shippin and handling

  15. How long has it been ripped, and has alot of grease leaked? If so its the same amount of work to pull out the whole cv to replace the boot, as it is to replace the whole cv. If its been broken for awhile, and alot of grease has leaked, that allows for dirt and water to get in. and if you dont get it all out, and replace the boot only, then your going to wind up replacing the whole cv again later down the road. Id reccomend manning up the extra money for a remanufactured cv, get one from orilleys they come with a lifetime warranty, so if it happens again its free!

yea i figured as much that i would have to replace it part is $15 so not bank breaker except for labour 2.5 hours. i drove it when it was raining to so it might have to be changed thanks....
