  1. Had a 93 that did the exact same thing for about 2 months. Sometimes all it did was click but as soon as the jumper cables were hooked up it fired right up. I too thought it was the starter. One day it happened and there was no one to jump it so I bought a new battery, that was over 2 years ago, haven't had a starting problem since.
  2. On my "new" 92 there is a red LED in the dash to the left of the emergency flasher switch. It has never come on. Anyone have any idea what the LED is for?
  3. If the headlight is filling with water that is the same problem I had. I took a foot long drill bit and drilled right down through the headlight. Not the best solution but I never had headlight problems after that.
  4. Found the problem. Battery cable was corroded about 3 inches inside the insulation and the small wire coming off the + terminal was corroded inside also. Weird that the headlights worked but nothing else............
  5. 92 2wd I left my door open aand the dome light was on, for several hours. Went to go to work, NOTHING. Jumped it and it started right up. Drove about 5 miles shut it off and it was the same thing, NOTHING. The headlights work but no tail lights, side lights, brake lights ect..... The high beam light on the dash works and the clock works until I turn the key to start then the clock blanks out but the headlights don't dim at all. There are no other dash lights and the gauges are dead. I put a different battery in, that was half dead and it started. I put the charger on it and now I'm back to having nothing. My battery charger indicates that the battery has a full charge now. Any ideas? I'm thinking ignition switch. But how would I test it? Why would only the headlights work? This is my "new" pathfinder that I just started driving last week, 650 miles and it does this to me........... Any help would be greaaatly appreciated.
  6. Yep, the old rounded off star wheels. Same as I have. I've got great brakes after I do a manual adjustment. Too lazy to go to the dealer to get new ones. I change my fronts about every 18 to 24 months so I'm getting about 60k out of the pads, I'd probably get more if I'd get those star wheels for the back. BTW: Exactly how do the back brakes self adjust? Backing up? Pulling on parking brake?
  7. Ever since I got hit in the passenger's door if you slam that door it locks all the doors. Also ever since then if I have the key in the ignition I can't lock any of the doors, the locks just pop back open. Other times I can't unlock the passenger's door, I unlock it but when you try to open it it locks again, I have to sneak up on it to get it open. I figure I have a pinched wire in that door. But hey, I never get in that side anyways, frustrates my wife though.
  8. Back in the day Chevy (can I say that here) had a modulator on I believe it was the 2 speed powerglide. Never did know what it did, It was a diaphram in what looked like an oil sending unit except it had a vacum line on it. When the diphram cracked or split the vacum sucked ATF into the intake manifold. It caused a little smoke but it realy made you search all over to figure out where your ATF was going. Don't know if pathfinders have such a thing or not. Mindless trivia...............
  9. Whew, I got my first car at 17, 1961 pontiac tempest, 4 cylinders, paid $100. My second car, a year later was a 63 buick special convertible, two speed tranny, cherry red I installed an 8 track in it and was hot sh*t. Paid $325 for that one, parents signed for a loan, I was making $3.45 an hour. When the tranny blew I took it to AAMCO, they wanted $800 to fix it, they told me the clutches were welded together, I have no idea how that happened. Bought new clutches for $15. Me and a friend learned how to fix an automatic that night. It was his idea. You ahd to go in from the front. So we stood it on end and as the parts came out we laid them out in a line across the garage floor. Finally got to the clutches. Replaced them and put it all back together. It worked fine until I traded it in on a 66 mustang. Those were the good ole days, ya could pull the motor and put it back in in just a couple of hours. I did it once just so I could paint the motor. Oh to be young again............................
  10. I have tried WD-40 aand that white spray grease. It loosened up a bit but after sitting a couple days its as stiff as ever. I don't think the carrier has ever been opened and she has never been mistreated, except by that butcher that I guess "Thought" he knew how to install a CD player, busted most of the plastic clips and screw holes. After I raised the front end to be level I started thinking about the back end being higher for carrying capacity. But I drive it more empty than I do hauling stuff. NEVER haul bales of hay in the back! I saw a lady the other day that had two miniature horse in the back of hers. I've installed lots of stereos over the years sso the wiring dosen't bother me. I guess I was asking what I should get that would impress my boys but not send me to the poor house. Is 300 watts enough to rattle windows?
  11. My 93 just turned 263,000 I got her at 135,000 almost 7 years ago. My recently aquired, "new" 92 pathfinder only has 105,000 on it. Both are Nissian red. A friend was concerned about buying an xterra with 83,000 on it and ask me how many miles I had on my Pathy. I told him 225,000 at the time, then told him " at 83,000 that thing ain't even broke in yet". Three years later he is still driving his xterra.
  12. (shift into 1st, start, accelerate, shut off, second, start, accellerate, shut off, third, start, accellerate etc... hahaha)
  13. To measure if your vehicle is level, where do you take the measurement? I used the bottom edge of the front and rear bumpers. After I got new tires, at the proper inflation, it looked like the rear was higher than the front. That got me thinking because my front tires were wearing out on the inside edge and squealed going around corners. They always told me geometry class would be useful for something. The difference front to rear was 1.75 inches with the front being lower. I crawled underneath and started turning the torsion bars up until I had the front and rear measuring the same. Made a BIG difference on handling and the ride no longer felt mushy. But offically where should I have taken my measurments? Second question: I saw in another thread that someone had replaced the pins in their tire carrier. HOW? The carrier on my 92 is frozen. It takes two men and a boy to open it. The carrier on my 93 rattles, I was gonna to swap them out. Is there a way to put a grease fitting in these carriers, I saw that there is a hole in the hinge do ya think I could put a zerk fitting in there? #3: how do you go about putting an amp or "sound system" in.? My 92 had one but they took the amp out, the monster wires are still there but no amp. I was thinking about just getting a bazooka from Walmaart to increase the bass. Its an amp and two woofers in a long tube. My god, I'm 53 years old and wondering how to increase the bass................ but my boys are 14, I'm just trying to show them I'm "off the chain" or what ever "cool" is called this week. One more: How do you get the headliner completely out and reinstall it? My 93 has speakers in the headliner and I'd like to put that headliner in the 92. Any thoughts?
  14. Both are automatics, thats why I'm thinking it might be a bolt in. I thought about swapping bodies but seems like even more work and alot of wires to contend with. I would have one week max from start to finish to do the job.
  15. I changed mine last year, 93 4WD. I did it without dropping the cross member but it was tight and I never pulled the pan completely out. The transmission filter is a joke, a piece of window screen only with bigger holes. Putting the new gasket in was the hard part, trying to keep all those holes lined up with the gasket. I used the wire trashbag ties and threaded one through each hole, worked great and made me stop swearing.
  16. I now have 2 pathfinders a great looking 92 2WD and a beatup looking 93 4wd with a bad transmission. The 92 has half as many miles on it as the 93. 1. Is it possible to take the 4WD running gear from the 93 and put it in the 92? 2. Would it be a bolt in change? 3. How much work would be involved? I know alot. Just wondering if its feasible.
  17. I know this is an old thread but I had to tell my windshield story. I was on my way to work at 5:30am, dark out. Going down the road at 60mph minding my own business when a hawk decides to fly right into the passenger side of my windshield, completely shattered that side and cracked the driver side. Got to work and there was no blood, just feathers stuck on my windshield wiper. On the way home that afternoon I looked for and found the dead hawk, big sucker, 3 pounds. The next day I had a company come to where I work and replace the windshield, cost me $140. They even vacumed up the tiny glass shards. Funny thing is I never even slowed down after the hawk hit.
  18. I've had my red 93 pathfinder 4x4 since 2000, bought it with 135k on it. Today it turned 260k. Repairs: waterpump & belts, right front caliper, master cylinder. Got hit on pssengerside doors, you should have seen the other car. Transmission is on its last legs, slips from 2nd to 3rd and now slipping in OD. A few weeks ago I bought a red 92 pathy 2wd with 130k on it. Runs great looks great. Yesterday the girl I bought it from was begging me to sell it back to her. All it needed was a speedometer cable and the headlight switch cleaned, plus cosmetic work where someone butchered the dash while installing a cd player, broke most of the plastic lugs where the screws go. I'm not an enthusiast but my 93 pathfinder has been the best vehicle I've ever owned, always dependable. I fell in love with this 92 as soon as I saw the for sale sign.
