  1. Nissandoms: mine is also a '97. when i first bought it, it wasn't so easy to pull the release handle. Now it takes very little effort. I'm going to take the paneling off of the rear liftgate just to make sure that everything is secure and i'll let you know if something is amiss so that you can check it out in your qx4 as well. slick: Yes my spare is under the rig, as for little stones and such, i'm going to do a thorough cleaning of the cargo area when i get home then drive it around the block. if worse comes to worst, i'm going to have my brother drive around while i hang around in the cargo area to pinpoint where the sound is originating from =P. it doesn't sound too major, it's more of an annoyance than anything, but who knows, this "annoyance" may very well be a broken part where the piece is just rattling around behind the interior paneling/trim. i'll definitely keep you guys posted. just so you guys n gals have an idea...it sounds like a plastic BB bouncing around rapidly at the bottom of an aluminum can. and it occurs when going over rough pavement...can be easily heard if i purposely drive over the reflectors on the lane dividers =P
  2. ok just recently, when driving around town, i noticed a rattling sound coming from the rear liftgate, or so i think that's where it's originating from. i cleared everything out of my trunk, tried banging around the cargo area, can't seem to duplicate the sound. Also, just started happening recently, my rear liftgate release handle has been pretty damn easy to pull. from what i remember, i would get some tension and a stronger "click" if you will, when opening the rear liftgate. now, i barely get that same "click", it's almost too easy to open. maybe this has to do with the rattling sound? loose part? hmmm i don't know. just wanted to get some insight before i go tearing the paneling off of the rear door tomorrow. ian
  3. AWESOME switch mod. DJ Dank, where did you get your indiglo gauge faces from?
  4. i know that the fluids were changed before i purchased my used Q as we made the transaction in the infiniti service dept. waiting room...weird i know...but i was anxious to buy it! that was 7k miles ago. i guess i'll do some poking around the belly of the pathy to see what matches most closely to that horrendous drawing in the service manual =P
  5. ok so after all of this 4WD'ing in tahoe...i've been wondering about my fluids. I read the online pdf manual (for the '97 4wd pathy), and the differential fluids seem straight forward. but as for the transfer case (Page MA-19), what and where exactly is that part of the undercarriage in that diagram (diagram numbers: SMA439B and SMA444B)? The link to the maintenance section of the pdf file is HERE Also, how often do you change your fluids? elapsed time or certain mile/km intervals? how often should i change a/t fluid? and one more thing, i read about the external a/t coolers...how difficult is it to install an external a/t fluid cooler? would i need to get some sort of pump to make the a/t fluid flow through the aftermarket external cooler? how exactly does it "flow" through the cooler if no pump is needed? simply pressure? i know i know...tons of questions...thanks again guys and gals. ian
  6. For those of you that have already installed cb radios... Do you need to install another antenna for the cb radio? i know that my uncles put these HUGE antennas on their rides, as well as amps. looks sweet on an old bronco II or old f150, but i think it'd look out of place anywhere on my r50. can the radio work reasonably well w/o an antenna? I'd like to use it while driving up to tahoe and friends/fam following...so the farthest we are from each other is usually 5-10 cars distance at most. sorry for the simple questions, but i don't know the range for these bad boys. Tiago...no i don't have the double din bose anymore...i replaced it with a single din pioneer, so i'll most likely stick the cb radio underneath. but most likely, i'll do what trainman did as i don't want to have a mic cable hanging in the way of everything...especially since i'll only be using the cb radio occasionally. i also like pezzy's...but with my luck, i wont' find a small enough cb radio, plus i have used those switches.
  7. so for those of us that have older models...do we have one at all? or would it be in a different location?
  8. where is the in cabin air filter? maybe i should change that too...bought this baby used =P
  9. it does angle slightly inward to make a trapezoidal shape, but you can mount the deck so that it is flush with the backside of the center console trim...that's actually how i installed my "pocket" as i went to single din with a pioneer head unit.
  10. i think i'm going to put a cb radio in my rig...i was the only one in our caravan of rides w/o a radio, and i sure wish that i had the comms to and from tahoe =P
  11. aww tiago...i thought that your Q was 4WD. yea i'd listen to filthy luker. i bet that the all mode computer system alone would cost a lot, let alone the mechanical parts and labor cost.

    Thanks!

good stuff luke! i'm inbetween newb & intermediate status...trying to work my way up =P although next to these folks, i'll always be a newb hahaha!
  13. hmmm that's easier than i thought...maybe i'll go with these hubs

    Timing Belt

hmm...maybe when my t-belt is due, i'll try to replace it myself...you'll see me asking a ton of questions, but i think that it's time that i learn how to change a t-belt.
  15. welcome! yea that 1 to 2 gear shift is like that in my r50 AT as well...but only happens when i gas it at low speeds, then release the gas right before the gear switch...then once it does shift, you feel the jerk...not a jerk that slows the car down, but actually pulls the car foward.
  16. sweet, thanks for the pic trainman =)
  17. yea those titan wheels make it look sexy! as if it isn't already sexy from the get go =P
  18. hey all...r50 owner here, are there any problems that arise from installing some 245/75/16 tires rather than the stock 70 series? ie rubbing at full steering wheel lock? did a search but too many results, and most deal with lifted setups. my suspension system is all stock, no lift or anything. Thanks in advance, ian
  19. welcome nago!!! i was in japan last year visiting my uncle who's stationed at yokota US air force base. japan is awesome! mt fuji so much better in person =P dj dank: those pathy's are sahweeeet!!!
  20. yea it works wonders for bio-based odors, ie milk, meat, blood, urine, feces. enzymes and natural bacteria contained in the cleaner work on the odor causing bacteria/mold, and other carbon based molecules. i now keep a little spray bottle filled with this "kids n pets" enzyme/bacteria based cleaning solution. IT WORKS! oh and fyi, i tried that pine sol thing the first night that i read from another forum...did somewhat ok with the milk, but it did wonders with the discoloration of the floormat...the area that i put pine sol on is clean as a whistle, so clean that the other half of the floormat looks dark and discolored. i couldn't tell at first, i just thought that the floormats were originally dark beige (remember i bought this pathy used--about 8 years old at time of purchase)...boy was i wrong =P
  21. ok, so i left baking soda over night, which took out about 80% of the odor, i'm pretty sure 2 more nights would totally do it, but i wanted it out asap. i learned that the best way to remove ODOR and stains caused by things such as cat pee, milk, blood, mold, mildew, and vomit is an enzyme-based cleaner...which when used, the enzymes break down the bio-based cause of odor. i bought "kids n pets" enzyme based odor/stain remover from Target, they also sell it at walmart, and it worked wonders. i sprayed some on the affected area...checked back in an hour...all gone =) and then the baking soda's deoderizing effect took over and my car smelled good as new! Thanks guys!
