Ordered the Krypton Fab bolt-on perch adapters and they should be delivered in the next couple days (already went through Canadian customs and entered US mail). I also ordered the 4" WJ lift coils with a spring rate of 190 lb/in. I'm hoping they will settle less and keep my tail end up when fully loaded for long expedition like treks. I'll post up photos of the install once I source my extended rear brake line.

I ran 265/70/16 BFG AT KO's (just under 31") with the 2" AC lift. No need for spacers because that diameter tire sits below (1/4-1/2") the lower strut coil spring seat. I didn't have the cash for spacers/rims, so that's why I settled for the 31" tires. Doing it again, I would have just dropped the cash for the rims (about $85/each) and gone 32" - I would have had a lot more fun over the last 3 years on the trails I ran! Of course, there is some trimming needed with going with spacers/rims and/or 31"+ tires - not too bad though.

Thanks for posting that up. I know that others have had to do some "persuading" with their longer shock setups, so that helps.

It might have something to do with the increase in CV angle with that additional 1". With the increase in angle and applied torque while wheeling (expecially if at full droop) it might lead to an increase in frequency of broken CV's. I've seen this exact siutaion happen on other rigs (Toyota 3rd Gen 4Runners with 3" lift) but not on the R50...yet! In my case, I just wanted to get over some rock formations that even another 1" and some 32" tires would not have helped. The NX4 Industries spacer looks to be a quality product though and I like that it helps level out the rake - I think it looks good after install.

The lift definitely looks good! I'm sure others will chime in if they had the same experience (or different), but mine looked like that right after install but it settled down a bit within just a couple months. Definitely looks good though - nice to see another 01 LE up in the air. Pre-lift/saggy springs/30" AT's: Post 2" lift/31" AT's/springs had settled already: Post 4" SFD/33"/2" coil spacers in back: Sway bar removal has helped my on several occassions off-road and I can't tell a difference in daily driving (and I tow a trailer a couple times/year), but I don't think you HAVE to remove it to wheel (especially if you are fairly new to venturing in to the "sport"). Just the 2" lift and decent tires can get you a lot of places. I'd also be curious to hear what you did with the ES3000's. I'm going to be working on something similar in the next 4-6 weeks when I complete the rear portion of the SFD.

I've had several issues with my t-case over the past 7 years. 1 - Previous owner ran it for 3 years continuously in AutoMode/AWD (just a piece of info, not sure if it had anything to do with my problem). About 7 years ago...the first time I put it in 4Lo the indicator light flashed and returned to 2WD. Had to replace a "sensor" of sorts from within the t-case. 2 - About 3 years ago I started having problems with the center diff releasing after switching out of 4Lo. I did exactly what others/owner's manual have said, forward/reverse, wheel to full lock both directions, accelerate up to 15/20 mph...one of those has always worked for me over the past couple years. 3 - When temps go below -30F and I turn my truck off while AutoMode (AWD) is still engaged and let it sit for about 8 hours (at work), I find that when I restart the engine, the center diff indicates it's locked. After several different attempts, I found I had to place the truck in Neutral, switch the indicator all the way to 4Lo and then back through to 2WD before it would disengage the center diff. It's about time for me to replace fluids again (which might totally help), but in my case (pun intended) I'm not sold that fluid is the only thing causing problems 2 and 3. Sorry if this doesn't help, I just like as much info from rigs in one section as possible...

Biggest Size Tire in Spare Location

Yeah, figured as much. Thanks for the check though! Familiar look to the cargo area... -
Biggest Size Tire in Spare Location
Rick13 replied to 01silvapathy's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
A couple months ago I mounted a "full size" spare (285/75/16), but it's worn down to about 32.5"). I've been keeping it in my cargo area for now (ratchet strapped down just in case). Any ways, I've been meaning to try the stock location but never got around to it - kind of figured it's way too big so why try. I realize you're going to test fit soon, but you've made me think I should finally just see how close (or not) it is to fitting. I'll let you know how it turns out. -
Rocky Road Super Sliders Installed
Rick13 replied to OfftourRoadie96's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
My wife and both kids use them as steps. I use them when loading my roof rack. I added some "grip tape" to the top so that I don't slip when they're wet. A word of caution is that the tape can scratch legs if not careful when exiting the vehicle. They aren't as low as my original step rails, but the wife says it's better than nothing. I use them to knock snow off my boots all winter long... -
Rocky Road Super Sliders Installed
Rick13 replied to OfftourRoadie96's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I've had mine on for 9 months or so and have banged/dragged them on just about everything - they are stout. I placed some longer Grade 8 bolts and a handfull of washers to help close the gap btw the pinch weld and the slider support. I don't think I had exactly the amount of space btw them as your pic, but they have held up extremely well regardless. Update: It had been a while since I installed my RRO SS's so I took a look under one side of my rig and found 3 mounting points to the frame rail (not just 2), each of those points has 2 bolts. It also has 6 bolts through the pinch weld on each side. After what I've put them though, I'm kind of surprised they've held up so well. -
Very nice...

I think those are sweet tires. I put a set on my wife's car 2 years ago and they are great on the street (wet/dry) and do well in light and moderate snow (up to 1' or so - but then her car acts more like a plow). I would tend to agree that they aren't great on ice, but then again, I have yet to drive on a set of tires that made me feel comfortable on ice (probably the driver, me, and not the tires!). I wheel with a guy who has a set of 32's on his 4Runner and he swears he'll never go back to a BFG AT:
-
Don't mean to jump in on your convo, but I think the Toyo MT is a hot tire. If they were a bit cheaper, I would have definitely jumped at them over my GY DuraTracs.
-
Nice! I like both those mod's.

Max tire size VS Lift Kit Used VS Custom or OE Wheels
Rick13 replied to fleurys's topic in R50 FAQ's & Pinned Topics
Year: 2001 LE lift : AC 2" coils + 4" SFD (2.5" coil spring spacers in the back) Wheels : ProComp Xtreme Crawlers (16x8 w/3.75" BS) Tires : Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs - 285/75/16 (32.8") Notes: Front tires just clear strut coil perch, but have rubbing on wheel well plastic on while turning in reverse and when "bouncing" at any turning angle (I need to borrow a heat gun and also do some minor trimming). The rear tires don't rub at all (even with moderate flexing). -
Weird Noise And Vibration When In 4Wd
Rick13 replied to Thunderbolt's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Hey David, I know we just talked about this on the phone the other day, but thought I'd chime in just to have more information all in one thread (and that we now have a similar setup). During our snow a few weeks ago, I put it in Auto/AWD (for the first time since installing the SFD) and had a weird noise from what sounded like the back somewhere. It only happened when I was turning sharp and accelerating from a complete stop. I didn't feel/hear it when I took it out of Auto and back in to 2Hi. Between then and now, I have put on larger tires and added just under 2" of lift to the back springs. I put it in 4Hi yesterday morning (snow/ice) just to see what would happen. I no longer heard/felt a noise from the back, now I heard/felt vibration when turning and accelerating from a stop from what sounded like the front. I took it out of 4Hi in the afternoon and ran Auto and didn't hear/feel anything like what I had heard just a few weeks ago. The roads where I was driving were extremely slick (2WD cars had trouble leaving my neighborhood) so I don't think it was just a binding issue. Next real snow (like 1-2 feet) I'm going to leave it in 4Hi for a while and see if I can repeat it. -
Thanks. I'll take photos this weekend - the weather is supposed to be sunny and warmer Friday/Saturday. The tires stick out what I consider a healthy distance (one that is good for being able to view what your tire is doing while on a trail, but not so much that it becomes a ticket worthy to a cop): Again, I'll take more of the whole thing this weekend.

My friends have nick named her the "blue beauty" cause it's not a typical color R50. It'll be good to have 2 of us out there!
-
I put my passenger rear tire on tall parking stop at work. I got the tire very close to the flair/wheel well, but it look like with some real flexing that the wheels will track at an angle towards the back of the rig and clear everything. I guess I can now call my rig:
-
I swear, I'll get on the photos:
-
Yep. I sit at 40" front and 37.5" rear. I plan to take some better measurements soon at my front IFS cross member, center diff cross member, gas tank skid, rear axle, and rear diff. These are measurements I took after my 2" lift with 31's. Just going to see the difference thus far...
-
Thanks you guys, it's half way to where I want it to be. Here is what the tires look like next to the strut coil perch...I think this is good news for those with similar rims/bs and want to run a similar sized tire. Passenger Side: Upon measuring with an actual tape measure, they are identically spaced on both sides (apparently my finger isn't the best measuring device). Swear that I'll take better photos tomorrow when the beast goes to work with me, but here is another but with the sun out this time:
-
I'm also just glad you are OK. But I have to say that I got angry just reading your description. I can't even imagine the things that would eminate from my mouth if that happened to me...considering how much work I've put in to my rig recently. I wish you the best with the insurance company. Seriously, I'm actually pissed FOR you.
-
Just a small update for my build. New shoes: GoodYear DuraTracs 285/75/16 (32.8") *Barely clears the strut coil perch (16x8 rim w/3.75" bs) I'll take better photos tomorrow when I'm out/about, but it honestly looks like a totally different rig now.
-
Well, the 33's are on and without spacers (16's with 3.75" bs). I'll post more about it later. Had to feed the kidlets, so now I'm back... I had a shop test fit one rim/tire on the front passenger side and it had just under 1/2" clearance from the strut/coil perch. Both have about that same clearance (the driver's side is just a tad closer/less room). I'm almost positive that if I were to air-down and do some serious wheeling right now that the tires would flex enough to touch the perch. I'm not worried about that right now, but it's something to consider. I'm leaving the spacers off for now cause I love the look. I'll take some photos in the daylight tomorrow and try to get a pic of the tire/strut also. All-in-all, I'd say that today's experiment was a success!
