As most of you know my pathfinder is not running well, and with my parents taking it out of my hands and putting it on my grandparents farm for a while, I was thinking about in my time left before summer, doing a motor build. Thinking about doing a VG30i (the same motor in my pathfinder now) I can get the whole motor for about $150-$175 from a friend at a local junk yard. I also have a friend who has a trucking company who does engine fabrication and engine repairs who said he would do anything I needed for almost free considering I got him a date and a little "somethin somethin" hehe He told me he would machine the cylinders for $30, check the specs on the heads for $20 a head and any other things I may need. Thinking about it, just wanting some opinions on the idea... Share your thoughts....thanks! And if you think I should do something different let me know...

I will try it out man...thanks! Won't be able to do it tonight cause I got dinner with the girlfriend and her parents so I will try it tomorrow morning and let you know what I find!

engine swap in a 89 pathy with a 90-95 300zx twin turbo
Nytrosfinder replied to dustinNPF's topic in The Garage
I say get a a 90 or 91 motor, rebuild it and strap a turbo to it... I got a friend who strapped a turbo to his motor in his little 91 hardbody pick up and he made custom oil lub lines, custom exhaust manifold, boost controller, and a greddy bov.... Ran it at 8psi and it was dyno'ed at about I believe 325-350hp... Stock V-6 motor... Bout 100,000 miles on it... Reason why I say rebuild it is cause in my friends motor, 3 months later it blew a rod... Right through the side of the block... And right into his turbo too...or some part of the turbo... Maybe the oil lines...idk don't totally remember... All I remember is it was brutally quick, then had a nasty ending.... -
Guess if I want a hood scoop I better get some fabrication tools then.... If anyone finds a hood scoop then let me know...
-
I did I guess a dry test... Never knew theirwas such a thing as a wet test....
-
I could have sworn i saw another pathfinder with one...
-
i never noticed that.... it was a little dark out when i did the test so i never knew if their was oil on it or not... good thought.... anyone else think he is right?

its so sick! http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_images/...00003_large.jpg hey TerranoNZ make that image fit in the forum... idk how to make an image in a forum.... and that comes on the Turbo Diesel one's only!

Anyone know where to get an aftermarket distributor for my 88 VG30i? or any other aftermarket ignition related electronics
-
Exactly... bolt on is the only thing i can do for now, primarily because i don't have any of the metal shaping tools to do it with... Plus i really like the hood scoop on the terrano... looks really sick... And no way in the world am i gonna go purchase some plastic crap from advance, auto zone, walmart or where ever you get it at and literally stick it on my hood.... no freaken way! plus i want a 2 function piece style and intake purposes... (yes i will make it filtered, water resistant and all that stuff too... (can anyone find me a good photo of the hood with the scoop?)

Lot of blue and a tiny bit of white cause I had a little coolant spill into the intake when I was hooking it back up... This was before my throttle body...

she lives again! I went out to do a new compression test and decided to try and see if she would start, turned the key and she started! I blew a piston ring though cause she smokes more than a forest fire! Help please! (apparently she doesn't like to run when hot...) Post Originally from "Nytro's_finder lives again!" Topic

SHE LIVES!!!!! Idk what happened but she lives again! I went out to her today to start a new compression test and I decided to see if she would crank, as soon as I turned the key she started! Idk why or how but I guess she doesn't run well hot....

Dude you are really awesome! I will take a look at all of it and give it a shot! I have access to almost any tool possible I got a haynes manual not too long ago... been reading that like a bible every single day... And thanks for the advice...

Ok so basically... someone tell me what i should do tomorrow in order of what to check first leading all the way up to a major ordeal.... Just wanna know what i should do before i rip the engine up in search of a problem....
-
True about URE.... And i pulled the plugs and wires for the test.... and btw, i had made plans to go to URE when i was running fine about 3 weeks ago... not expecting this of course...
-
wow really? I might look into that... where is it at? local napa or what not? thats something thats not pushed by media so i would believe it if its by word of mouth recommendation...
-
I will give it another shot tomorrow in the AM... I might be doing some serious work tomorrow.... Compression tester is BRAND SPANKIN NEW... got it wednesday and it was my first test with it... I was told the engine should revolve 3 times during a compression test from my automotive instructor at my high school who is an ASE Certified Master Technician.... I might pull the timing belt cover off again tomorrow and look at the timing set up again...then pull the valve covers off and take a look at the internals... On a side note: If you don't mind helping me out, or being on the phone with a total stranger... send me a personal message with your phone number so i can directly contact you... And if you do text message... let me know in the message... This is kind of a bit of a buzz kill for me cause all my local friends with lifted beasts invited me to go on April 19th up to the local off roading park(Uwharrie-aka URE) for the day.... and now im stuck with nothing.... if you understand that then you understand how much i want this to be running again... BTW... I am in total love with pathfinders... because of you all on the forum... thanks alot!

If its a whine then its the upper bearing on the pump, if its a hiss then maybe their maybe a clog by the intake hose... that was how mine was then i took my pump out and their was a pebble by the intake hose... don't know how it got there... but it was there...
-
Battery readings for both compression tests were 12.62v for both tests... And I put the battery charger on for about 2-5 minutes and done... And their is a chance I might of done it not exactly right... Pretty sure I did though.... All I can say is I spent 15-30minutes last night making adjustments and trying to figure something out.... No revs no catching or anything....
-
slim to none... Checked it all out and it's still aligned... It's internal...
