Mish, Your truck is pretty low rider styler...it has definately sagged. If you replace your rear springs with stock springs again I think that it will come up a bit in the rear...you can then adjust your torsion bars again at the front so it doesn't look like a hotrod. I know you are worried about your steering but you shouldn't have any worries. You are not going up way high...you are not replacing upper control arms, which is when the steering concerns come into play.

88, as a rough guestimation how many hard trail trips you reckon your tie rods last now with the l&p system?

I never had rear speakers in mine either. Made my own panels and added them in. I have seen the roof setup from 94 spec pathys in Australia...looked pretty cool.

there is a how to on this mish... and yeah, yours is below stock...just need some tinkering and you will be rolling on those 31s.

so has it actually done your steering any favours staying with 31's? imho after you lift that much you can't escape the fact that you have drastically increased the angles on your tie rods.

I have the Calmini kit fitted and I think it is pretty damn good. Haven't had any problems with it, and I hit some pretty good trails. As has been said though, make sure you incorporate a steering upgrade into your costings. I have spent about 1000(australian) replacing stock steering components since I lifted. Evidently it is easier to get steering upgrades in the US for that in Australia.

Yep thats a blue tongue lizard. No worries about it being under your porch cos they aint aggressive. Then again if you pick one up the wrong way and they latch onto you they tend to have a good bite and they don't let go. :o Hey v6 you do any wheelin up there or is that still out of the question?

Last time I called 4wd systems with regard to their lokka they said "oh about 600". They didn't seem particularly interested in quoting a price so I didn't seem particularly interested in buying from them.

I agree, each to his own. I was just putting it the way I understand the physics of it. The front tyres have to drag the rest of the vehicle up the hill. But as you say, cheezy would have plenty of experience for it, so yeah it is interesting. I don't have any experience with a front locker to compare it to but I definately have no regrets with a rear locker. On or Off the road. But who knows, maybe the front locker would have been more effective!? Thanks 88, I forgot my letters to go with my numbers. So definately a r200...ok cool. What about your MQ front axle vsicks? What diff is in there?

The stock Tranny cooly is intergrated into the bottom half of the radiator. If you have a look at the bottom of the radiator on the engine side you will see two small hoses going in and out. They go back to your transmission.

hey vsicks, your MQ front axle does that have the c200 open diff in it? I know you orgininally asked for expert opinion but it doesn't look like that will happen, so my experience educated opinion... I got the rear lock right as you know and I do not see the benefit of the front locker over the rear. Yes I have read the link you posted (many times infact!). I understand the argument that on a hill climb the front locker could drag you up the hill but the way I see it due to physics more weight would be on the rear of the vehicle due to the incline of the hill. In any case I went from an open rear diff to a locked rear diff and the difference has been amazing. I killed my steering (again) half way up a hill and the locker just pushed me on up whereas before I would have been totally stuck. Also availability had a bearing on the locker I chose. I still have figured out if my Terrano has the c180 or c200 front diff so the rear was the option for me.

my list looks pretty sedate to most. usual items: shovel snatch strap equaliser strap 4 shackels CB radio mobile phone usually go with my best mate and between us we have got a bit more gear together inlcuding: tirfor hand winch snatch blocks high lift jack drag chain carry a few mechanical spares specific to each truck. for me that is going to mean carrying more tie rods whilst my mate seems to have a problem keeping his power steering hoses connected, and of course we have the tools we need to make some road side repairs if need be. we always carry plenty of drinking quality water incase it is needed for the trucks or ourselves. thats about it really, a good friend you can rely on and who will help you out seems to be the best off-road gear you can take in my opinion!

My brother had this problem on a car he once had. Not a permanent fix but if you get stuck and don't want to wait around just pour some water on the starter motor, worked a treat every time. Don't worry about the electricity. Its not a closed circuit until you turn the key.

I run diesel power. TD27T as per standard Terranos. Tis a bit short on power sometimes - eg long hill climbs, but thru mud and up rocks it is sweet. Plus it has great compression breaking in low range for downhill work.

GrimGreg, three states of America I assume. I'm in Australia and the fuzz loves giving tickets to 4wdrives at the moment because of all the anti 4wd fodder going on at the moment.

I think the cheap ones are add ons for the expensive bits.

Depends on how far the tyre sticks out but generally I dislike the look. I also dislike the damage that can be done to the body work when driving on gravel roads if you tyres do stick out. I had a couple of days without flares when I ripped off the OEM flares and was replacing them with flexi flares. Didn't like it. Car was made a mess of as soon as I drove over anything that clean black tarmac...crap was flying off the road into my doors as well. Plus I was waiting for the Police to pick me up on it. Flares all the way!

Maybe he is talking about the 'trade offs' like not as good road manners, and increased center of gravity. Pfft...I call it having a beast of a truck...instead a car with big wheels.
