  2. Oh and if your fuel was leaking back like you suggest then you would be blowing a lot of white smoke at start up. Diesel and air in the fuel lines is a no no.
  3. sw are you 100% positive on that glow plug statement? While the engine is still cold the compression stroke alone does not produce enough heat for the diesell to ignite, so the glow plug is used to warm up the chamber and help with the bang. Obviously this HAS to happen at startup, but I was under the impression that the glow plugs were still helping until the engine was at operational temperature. Glow plugs - Yeah you do need to wait for them. There is an orange light with a coil simble on it to the left of the steering wheel. Turn the car on and wait for the light to go out as sw said. You need to change them when they are stuffed. If they take more than about 30 seconds to heat up (light goes out) then either your battery is low on charge or your plugs are on their way out (or already gone). Blow by on the TD27T is normal. There will be a lot of it in the intake pipes between the turbo outlet and the throttle inlet. You can get a oil catch can but make sure you keep the pipe diameter the same otherwise you will come into problems. The blow by is a 'side effect' of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve releasing pressure from the crankcase, and in a diesel is normal. The TD27T seems to blow by a bit more than most though. If you do decide to put an oil catch can in make sure you do not reduce the diameter of this pipe. The engine won't be ablt to release pressure sufficiently and you can blow you motor. I reduced the size of this pipe and was very lucky...the pressure that built up was enough to blow the dipstick out the side of the motor and bang into the bonnet. Only thing I had changed was the catch can so I by passed it and problem gone! Personally I think your problem is caused by dead glow plugs...but don't take my advice as gospel because sw has made me question part of my theory. Justin

  5. have a look at the VH41DE. I don't know what pathy your have now, but the VG30 has a Jatco RE4R01A whilst the VH41DE has a Jatco RE4R03A transmission. These transmissions have the same bolt pattern, and the swap can be done by retaining the bellhousing from the new engine. You could also look into the single turbo VG30ET out of an 80s 300zx. I have seen both these conversions done...funnily enough by the same guy. He uses the turbo truck to tow his v8 race truck
  6. Just get some half warn Mud Terrains...you won't worry about the noise from the engine any more! In all seriousness though, the Pathy is loud because there is stuff all sound deadening on the firewall. Not too hard to fix with some stick on sheets, but I have never bothered.

  9. Good thing visibility isn't a problem at all. I must have just been looking at if funny. Kremmen, I don't know exact HP gains as I have never dynoed the car but I can say that it is much more lively and also more 'eager' to drive up hills. My cooler came off a series 5 Mazda RX7, which I got off ebay for 50 dollars australian. I spun the throttle body around and made a custom pipe to accomodate the cooler. I believe Geordie used a cooler from an R33 Skyline which he then modified the end cans on...it looks more professional than mine!

  11. yeah i noticed, which kind of left me wondering: if it sits flush as oppose to off to the side of the vehicle I would have thought it would hinder visibility more...? mebe? Anyways they are both pretty good and much better than I could do. I just payed the man and went for a safari jobbie.

(Gee I feel good this morning) Whilst I think treywurst has done a pretty decent job I still prefer Geodies efforts. Mainly because I notice the snorkel appears to sit above the windscreen more than it does the A pillar and I reckon that would be a bastard for visibility. Then of course I could have just looked at the wrong pics from the wrong angles and might be completely wrong. I have seens Geordies in the flesh and the polished stainless steel looks mint. But like you say treywurst...its a function thing.
  14. the problem that arises with this kit is that your torsion bars sit lower and you can have clearance issues. i don't know if this problem has been addressed yet. my 2 cents.

  16. sorry, i speak english not uh-merican. dnodog, yes i have installed a boost controller. it is pretty simple...but you don't want to wind up the boost too far without adjusting fuel. also because the td27t runs a pre-combustion chamber you don't want to go crazy with boost. what info were you looking for regarding a boost controller?
  17. oh sorry i should have been slightly more specific. whilst it is the same model code as found in the r33 skyline there is one key difference not reflected in the model code. The auto in the pathy is made to have a transfer case on it whilst the skyline obviously isnt. You could MAKE it fit but it would be a bit of stuffing around. You would need a divorced transfer case with the output shaft on the correct side and then you would have to get new drive shafts engineered. I looked at these options recently for an engine conversion and found it would be much easier to retain the current gearbox/transfer setup.
  18. i think i remember thinking it was a bit laggier than before...but i can't remember how it used to be now. yep better torque all round...better hill climbs and feels more eager to go at higher speeds, which is damn sweet. haven't turn up fuel to date...a dyno tune is on the TO-DO list.
  19. Grego, A couple of pics of my set up are below. I don't have a bodylift, but yeah it is a pretty tight squeeze Geordie4x4 has the same sort of set up but since he has fabrications skills his is a lot neater. I used a Mazda series 5 RX7 cooler and spun my turbo outlet and throttle inlet around to accomodate it. Geordie used a Skyline cooler and modified it to suit the engine. Basically Geordie did it better, so hopefully he will read this and show you a couple of pics!
  20. holy crap the intercooler made that much difference to the inlet temperature! sweet...I wanted to get a Pyrometer to check that exact same thing. Geordie, as far as I was aware diesels run cooler than petrols, but I don't know specifically between the TDs and the VGs. Justin (hows the steering BTW) ?
  21. when you say it is leaking oil do you mean you are getting oil into your intake manifold? this is normal it is called "blow-by" and the td27t runs a lot of blow by. There is a hose that runs from the PCV valve to the main air intake, after the air filter. You could consider using a oil catch can here. VERY IMPORTANT: if you do use a catch can MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE INTERNAL HOSE DIAMETER AND ALL FITTINGS THE SAME AS FROM FACTORY. If you do not do this you will have much tooo high pressure and you will pop your engine. I was luck my dipstick shot into my bonnet before my engine went bang!
  22. Good question sw, I have always been a bit worried about this myself. When I first put my boost guage on it was reading just over 10psi of boost in stock trim. I have pumped my up to 12ish (closer to 13) but also am intercooled...I have been running this config for about 6 months with no dramas. I do push it hard too.
  23. Mish how are you getting on with your research into your SAS? As far as I am aware you cannot do a coil SAS in Western Australia, leaf springs are the only option. This was the major reason that put me off. Speak to that guy on perth4x4 who has done and SAS on his surf. He went thru Opposite Lock in Balcatta which would have to be one of your first stops for this project. Hope it all goes well. Justin
