  1. I just got back from a christmas trip from Memphis, Tn to Detroit, Mi. Going through the hills of Kentucky with cruse control on was annoying as hell, she kept kicking down and reving between 4-6k till I was nearly half way down the other side of the hill. I read the Tranny Mod thread and it sounds kinda like what I am talking about so I was wanting some response to see if I am on the right track. Strange thing is that I got about 13 mpg while in cruse, with cruse off and not letting it kickdown, which sometimes felt like I was backsliding, I got about 18 mpg. Gimmie some feedback guys, I gotta know if this thing will really work, sounds like its kind of a band aid. Are there any other ways to adjsut the tranny kickdown feature so that it would not kickdown to the point it sounds like the engine is going to blow? Would installing headers or other horse power increasing options help in this area by providing more power, perhaps I wouldnt slowdown so much going up hills when not letting it kick in.
  2. I am experienceing silmilar problems with my 89, it seems worse when it is damp outside. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was because of this casket that has a heating element in it on the throttle body to warm the fuel and told me I needed to replace the whole t-body. I of course told them to kiss it and left(Thieving bastards)... I have not yet fixed the problem but will be taking it to a friend of my cousins who apparently has worked for Nissan for 16 years and knows the Pathfinder well. I will keep you posted on our progress. Also let me know what you come up with as well. Good Luck!!!
  3. Thanks guys, those are some great ideas. I will see what I can find and keep you posted. Merry Christmas...
  4. I am looking to increase the height of the arm rest in my 89 2 door. I have noticed that some later year models have taller armrests, is it pretty easy to swap them out? Joe
  5. Well at least I have a viable reason for haveing two doors and preferring it that way. I am paralyzed from the waist down and use a wheelchair, take it apart and put it in the back seat each time I get in and out of the pathy. The two doors model has a bigger door to do so. Ha!!! And geez guys, some of you need to learn to spell. I am deffinatly with ya on rockin from the inside though... No matter how many doors you have.
  6. Great, thanks... I jsut had the oil changed and they told me that the trans looked really good, the fluid was still pink so it had either been serviced recently or had been taken exceptional well care of. Which I believe the later... For an 89, it is in good shape, the only rust on the whole thing is at the bottom hinge of the tire carrier and a big hole in the left front wheel well, caused I guess from the (I cant remember what its called) thing right above it. I will get some pics soon to post, I plan on adding things slowly as I dont have much money right now but headers are first on my list, and perhaps I will try to polish the throttle body per L&P. Granted they pick up there customer service a little bit. sssh
  7. Awesome lookin headers man!!! I am looking into the Thorley headers myself. Great work, keep us posted on the outcome... I am new to this post but am learning so much(ie, relocate the oil filter w/headers) about Pathys it is very cool... Heres to ya...
  8. I'm taking it tonight to a friend of my cousin who has worked on Nissans and Infinitys for 16 years. Would the O2 sensor alone make it respond funny when you apply the gas? Sometimes it just does nothing when I press the peddle, I have to back off and try again very slowly. Also I am going to have to replace the exhaust manifold bolts, so, since I am going to this trouble now should I go ahead and install headers? Its an 89 4x4 vg30i automatic, what problems are there when installing headers in a truck with an auto transmission?
  9. Thanks for the advice guys, I spoke to the service writer at Nissa again, he says that there is a gasket with a heating element in it and it is not working, therefore the throtle body housing will warp. I dunno, I thought it was jsut to heat the air coming in the throttle body for the MAS. Any advice here would be helpfull. Thanks...
  10. Hey guys, I just bought an 89 pathy with only 60000 miles. She ran ok a bit of a dog really but I could not get her through inspection. Took her to a local mechanic who diagnosed the Cat as the problem and wanted 300 to replace it. Being the guy I am I shopped and found I could replace the cat and the muffler for that so I did, carsound high flow cat and and 18" Magnaflow she sounds good but still didnt pass inpection. Took her to the dealer and they are telling me O2 sensor, ok fare enough but they also said I need to replace my throttle body altogether at $1650. Does anyone know of where I can get a resonanly priced replacement? And are there any performance throttle bodies on the market or can I replace it with Fuel injection with out haveing a plethura of computer issues? Help!!!
