1995 XE 4x4 Brake Pad Shim

I've got a 'noise' in my front left wheel. When coming to a stop there is a low rumble sound from the left tire. There is no feeling or vibration in the steering wheel when this happens. I checked it out yesterday and the pads look ok, no severe wear and they are about 5/8 of an inch thick, rotor looks ok. The grease looks a little thin in the hub so I'm going to repack the bearing and see if that takes care of things but I don't have the tool to remove the last lock washer ring before I can take the hub and rotor off..any thoughts on that tool? Either way, I removed the shim from the pad because it came lose and was in contact with the hub when driving making avery irritating noise. What harm is there removing the shim from the pad and continuing to drive like that?

u need the shim...im going to guess u got the pads at advance auto parts...they're pads friggin suck for our trucks...i had 3 sets in less than a year come loose and the shim ate into my hub and finally teh last time i took them out there showed them what it had done told them to give me my money back that their pads were @!*% and i was not buying any more parts there and everything was coming from napa which i have had their pads on for about 3-4 years without any problems...

 

 

u can buy replacement shims but they wont fit...i'd say just pick up some new 1's

I dont have shims on mine at all..and havnt for more than a year now

i was under the impression that a lot of replacement pads do not need shims....maybe im way off...
