FLApathy
so i took my exo tire carrier off tonite to reapaint it, the bottom hinge thingy is seized pretty tight, i was wondering since i have to destroy the pins to get them out can i replace them with a bolt, that way in the future all i have to do is unbolt the 'pins', ill get a bolt thats solid all the way down with threads at very end and then get some type of rubber as a bushing so you guys think that will work? GrimGreg
Unless it is a tight fit in the bushings and hinge mount it will wobble. The replacement pins are easier to get out, unless you mushroom them with a press like the factory ones.

KILLVOX
You could spray it with bed liner. Hides any imperfections. I'm about to go crazy with the stuff. Or you could leave the rack off and throw the tire on the roof. :cool2:
GrimGreg
I used Rustoleum Hammered Finish stuff, on mine, but it is all flaking off now. Dunno why, I de-greased then sanded the whole thing (not to bare metal but scuffed the entire surface). On other things I had painted with the stuff it worked great . mws
POR-15 with Black Coat (for glossy finish) or Chassis Black (for semi-gloss)! And take your time on the prep work. 99% of paint failures is due to insufficient prep. As far as the hinge pin, do you know anyone with access to a lathe?
