amullerworth
My wifes 1990 XE 4WD makes a loud clunk when engaging drive. I have never noticed this occuring when reversing! Could it be a loose engine mount, or is it a transmission problem? Thanks for any advice on this.:help:

Could it be a loose engine mount, or is it a transmission problem? Thanks for any advice on this.:help: It could either be a tranny mount, an engine mount, or something in your rear axle...check your engine mounts if you can to make sure one isn't broken..you can also do the same with your tranny...if it's the axle...I'd recommend taking it to a shop if you can't inspect it yourself, or to someone you trust to look into it. Good luck!
unccpathfinder
i donno much about this problem in our trucks but in most cars when its doing that isnt it more than likely a U joint having slop but yes i would most def check the mounts my moms old achieva did that but its FWD and a motor mount went bad but u know the motor is oriented with the wheels so it rotates with the wheels so i donno how it would react in our trucks the way the motor is oriented
