How do I remove the fake woodgrain trim?

My son's '97 SE has the fake woodgrain trim on the area surrounding the stereo/air conditioning controls. Unfortunately, it's discolored, and I'd like to remove it.

 

The previous owner said it was there when he bought the Pathy in 2000, so I'm assuming this must have been a factory 'option'.

 

What's the easiest way to remove this fake trim? I've tried to gently pry it up, but it seems like it's on there pretty good.

My mom's 97 QX4 had the same stuff/did the same thing. Not too sure what you can do about removing i, as I'm sure it's going to leave behind some nasty sticky glue. You'll definately need to paint or at least prime the dash after removing it (stick w/ black primer).

And yes, it WAS a factory option (albeit a cheap one!)

I'm guessing just rip it off? (seeing as it's trash anyway) and give it a good rub down (LOL) with some Goo Gone?

Any other suggestions?

I think it actually replaced the stock trim pieces, so you may want to go to a junk yard and get replacements (with or without the wood, your choice depending on selection ). That would be the nicest way to replace it.

Indeed it would Do you think some dash peices actually need to be removed to get the trim up from under them?

Not sure about the 97 that was the original post but it looks like mine would come off in one piece. But I have never had to do it, so not sure.

 

I know we can buy fake wood for our Sienna from Toyota, and it is just a straight replacement of the existing black trim according to the dealer. Clips in to the original mounting places so hopefully on the Pathy it is the same.
