I'm guessing you'd have to take it to the dealership to do that...

or -- they could rekey the doors to match the ignition for you???

It'd be cheaper to rekey the doors, I think. The ignition switch is screwed to the steering column with self-shearing screws, you have to drill them out to remove it.

ya. i saw that they were self sheering bolts in the FSM.. does anyone know if i have to remove the steering wheel and airbag etc to get to the ignition switch?

i guess i'd rather re-key the ignition than the front doors, rear hatch, and the glove.

You could get an alarm installed with keyless entry for like $100 and save yourself the headaches and expense of re-keying. Plus you won't have to fumble for your door key in the rain.

Also if you leave the locks as they are, you could use a hide-a-key thing with just your door key in it in case you lock your keys in the car. If someone does happen to find your hidden key, there's less chance of vehicle theft if the doors and ignition are keyed differently.

good point.. how does the hide-alock work? is it a magnet or something.. is it fairly secure on the car

the cases for hide-a-keys come in many varieties, but they are magnetic and you can stick them anywhere your heart desires (as long as it's onto metal) to hide it under your pathy ;) you can even paint the little carriers they come in so you can camoflage it sly

oh yeah..... i have never lost a hide-a-key yet... though i did knock one off in the ickiest mud once.. luckily i found it :hide:
