Brake/ABS indicator problem fixed

Hi all, new here! Some of you may have seen my intro post. I recently bought a '93 Pathy XE 4x4 Auto. The brake and ABS indicators on the dash were lit up and wouldn't go off.

 

I popped the hood and added some DOT-3 because the resevoir on the brake master was almost dead empty(like half a can!). The light didn't go off (was hoping it was a fluid level switch) so I poked around...

 

Turns out that the nuts holding brake master to the studs on the booster were backed out. One was about three threads loose, the other was almost falling off the stud. I pull out the trusty 12mm and tighten them down, top off the fluid and crank 'er up.

 

Guess what? The ABS and Brake warning lamps are now off!

 

I'm sure it needs a bleed but that'll have to wait until I get rid of the 12+" of snow in the driveway.

Might have to check my bolts, my ABS light has been on for 6 months, flickered off and on for a year before that. I figured it was the sensor, but I'll give the bolts a look first.

If I had to guess, the ABS system (probably not the sensor itself though) detects boosted line pressure. I say the ABS system because both the ABS and Brake lamp came on.

 

The loose master likely had something to do with the lack of line pressure...

 

I'd check if I were you, but if you're not getting both lamps don't be surprised to find your bolts are tight.

Yeah, but it just gives me another possibility for the cause.
