Yeah, they QX4 was their first successful vehicle marketing-wise. Then along came the G35 and that was their second. Some say the the big QX56 (is that right?) would be one too but I disagree.

just as Acura and Lexus were designated the upscale divisions of Honda and Lexus.

They also forgot to mention that the M30 was available in coupe and convertible form as well.

 

A little more Infniti trivia knowlege. Did you know that the J30 was based off the 300ZX platform? Or the I30 based off the Maxima? The G20 is essentially a reworked Sentra.

 

The only vehicles that Nissan released under the Infiniti nameplate that weren't based off of Nissan vehicles, were the Q45 and the M30 (which, naturally, had the VG30DE).

i actually own quite a few infiniti/nissan vehicles...a '91 Q45, '02 Frontier, '02 Maxima SE, and of course my beloved '97 QX4. i can see why the qx4 boosted infiniti's sales. it's extremely dependable, has all of the bells & whistles of luxury, complemented with the ability to be rugged, with a little help from a 4wd system that came from a nissan skyline. my Q45, power and acceleration that i have yet to find true competition for, i can go from 100 mph to 130 in an instant, but the tranny is known for its short life span, which is probably its only downfall considering the price of transmissions, and at its age, a new tranny costs as much as the car itself =P. i've test driven a lot of the pre-qx4 infiniti's, and i just didn't like the smaller wannabe-luxury sedans...they just didn't cut it. we've owned many other cars in the past, including my greatly missed toyota celica, pontiac grand am, honda accord...but now...four of my five vehicles (the other a ford econoline e150) are nissan/infiniti, i love 'em more and more as each day goes by. with that said, i see nothing but clear skies for infiniti's future =P

hehe nothing really except for maybe the 4wd redundancy thing i wrote about in another post...oh and of course the engine! newer pathy's sport the 3.5L 240 hp engine, while the the earlier qx4's have the weaker 3.3L engines. the '01s and up, all share the same motor, but different center console and infiniti's of course have the different grille, and xenon headlights. but i went with the qx4 because i love the r50 body style, and in a '97, it had the all-mode 4wd and its nissan siblings didn't. and for the money, i found this used infiniti at a ridiculous bargain price, so i jumped on it. i was really in the market for a pathy, 4runner, or an old ford bronco II. and this one gave me more bang for my buck.
