Q1:

I need front door speakers. By the count of all the speaker grills in the vehicle it would appear that this system has 8 speaker, 2 in the front windshield pillars,

2 in the front door 2 woofers and 2 tweeters in the back. I look in a book that showed speakers sizes and replacement and it show 5x7 for the fronts. Is this right?

Where in the heck am I going to find a pair 5x7? Criteria;CHEAP

Q2:

Where is this sensor located that I hear about people cleaning?

Q3:

Strange:

In about the first 5 minutes of drive time, after long periods of not running, the vehicle shakes in 4th gear, this is usually just for the first 5 minutes.

It feels like the tires out of balance the whole vehicle "wobbles", than it goes away.

Any ideas?

Q1) Use search Bud, there are plenty of posts, some recent.... ;)

Q2) http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=5194

Q3) 4th gear is direct drive with the MT. Perhaps it is running rough when cold and thats where you feel it ? I'd say check the mounts and ask when the last tune up was...

You right, I could have put a little more effort into searching, I'll do better next time sorry.

From all the post I read prior to me posting this one, Q3 is where I thought there could be a relation with Q1.

I was thinking exactly what you mentioned, "tune-up".

The other thought was also in your line of thinking but more in the carriage bearing area. I have never experienced a bearing going bad or possibly not being installed correctly and since I did remove this during the tranny rebuild I had some thoughts, if it were possible to some how not get the bearing installed right.

On the speaker issue I have read, not discrepancies, but talk as if some individuals have used 4x6 either to replace 5x7 or that the vehicle came with 4x6 I'm still a little confused with this.

In any case it sounds like 4x6 would fit in the front doors, is that correct?

I can get a pair of 4x6's easier and cheaper than 5x7.

No worries Bud, thats my standard answer in replace of "more info than I can type" or "I have no clue and would have to search for it"... :D

The fact that you feel a wobble in 4th gear only seems to point at the tranny, but you have a much better experience than I do, I've never torn mine apart.

With a little lick, #2 may fix #3...

As for speakers, I don't even know if mine are stock. The PO put in a basic stereo after the first nice one was stolen. Works good enough for me so I never messed with it. (read LAZY) :D

Funny... I replaced my stock 4x6's with 5x7's... lol.. moral of the speaker story is YES, you can downsize you front door speakers.

Looks like other questions have been taken care of so I'll save myself some fingernail wear n tear..lol :aok:

You said "stock 4x6" Ah-Ha The cross reference speaker books say that stock for the 95 was 5x7 BUT at the same time they only show front 5x7 and back 5x7.

This is why it is good to have a place like this forum, so naive persons as my self can get "Real life" answers and not depend on some manufactures whos out to screw the public.

o.k. that's enough of my ramblings.

I'm not sure what the standard stereo config is in most pathfinders but mine has 8 speakers.

2 tweets in the windshields pillars, 2 woofs in the front door,

The ceiling in the back, 2 tweets and 2 woofs in separate grills.

The PO ripped out the speakers in the door and the ones in back are buzzing.

With the front speakers missing I'm figure the Output Finals in the stereo maybe burned out too.

On the wobbly thing, Precise1, I'm thinking you're right 2 and 3 could be intertwined.

after reading the post on the cleaning of the sensor I have a new fear.

There is a couple references on "NOT" to damage the wires. I think you are familiar with my vehicle and mines relationship. What are the odds of me getting the sensor unbolted with out stripping the screws and cleaning it without damaging the wires.

Matter of fact I called a friend, same friend that know the priest, who has a friend who is a bookie in Vegas.

The deals is I'm to give a 3 day notice prior to my starting this task so he can set odds and start taking bets. I gave him notice yesterday, I called this morning and got the line. WOW I'm so confident it their odds that I scrounged up a 100 buck and placed a bet.

I figure by Monday I will be 50,000 dollars richer.

The odds are 50 to 1 that I will not get this thing out and In without screwing it up.

50:1 eh ? Put $20 on yourself for me please... ;)

Well, the two issues are not stripping the screws and not damaging the wires. A good screwdriver with the right sized blade should avoid and problems. It may worth giving them a little love tap with an impact driver (the manual kind). As for the wires, just use caution and save the beer for after the job. I'm due to do mine and the weather looks good for the next few days so maybe I'll have some first hand info for you, but it really should be simple. Can't hurt to borrow those moose antlers again though... :D

That would be $5000, wouldn't it ?

I did my MAF sensor without braking anyting.. and I was a Jack n Coke into the job. ;) Like 88 said.. just don't CRAM a q-tip into the wires and you'll be fine. pretend you're cleaning the inside of your headlight bulb.. ya know..w here it has the thin wires.... the MAF is made a little bit sturdier.. but just use caution and you'll be fine.. hey.. it took me a month to buck up the courage to "just do it".. and all was fine :aok:

You're right 5000 not 50,000 there goes my Engineer degree I can't even multiply any more.

actually I was getting over confident in my lack of ability to finish the project in a postive manner and figured I would screw it up so bad that it should pay out 50,000.

Either way there won't be a pay day yet, I didn't try to clean it.

I started looking at the other "tune up" components, distributer cap and rotor.

I would have looked at the spark plugs but couldn't get the dang wires off the plugs, there is no trick to this is there?

The distributer cap and rotor are Nissan parts which makes me wonder if they are the original that came with the vehicle or the PO went to the dealer to get things done.

The cap has a crack near one of the screw holes and the pickups on the inside are carbonized, the rotor contact point is also pretty black.

Is there a standard time as to when to change these components on electronic ignition vehicles? Every 60,000 miles or some thing like that?

I picked up a pair of Sony 5x7, I little more than I wanted to spend but the only ones I could find.

A sales guys said that 6x8 speaks marketed for Ford vehicles are actually 5x7. This would not have ,evrything he had for Ford 6x8 was more expensive than those 5x7

^ What the boss said. If the cap is cracked, replace it, and the rotor at the same time.

Pull ? They may be suctioned on or have firm/corroded contacts. Make sure just to pull on the boot. Pliers can be helpful if you are gentle, particularly the ones with the groove (lineman's pliers ?)

Manual says replace plugs every 30k miles, so thats a good time to check/replace the cap and rotor. Good wires should last longer, but I generally do a full tune up every 2 years just before Cali smog test time so I have never used those components till they fail.

:( he said fail

and yeah.. as above.. sounds like it's time. Just make sure you pull straight up and not wiggle the plug wire or oyu may break something.. :aok:

Talked to PO today vehicle had spark plugs chnaged 2 years ago, but not the distribute cap or rotor, which say Nissan.

What are the odds that these are the original parts.

10 years and 220,000 miles later. G this thing ought to run like a dream with new parts.
