this may be a stupid question but im gonna go ahead and say it anyway...would it be safe for my engine to replace my cat with a glasspack? would it sound better, give me more power because of less restiction? i already have a glasspack replacing my muffler i think somebody has done this on this site before...sorry i dont know much about it and i dont want to mess up my engine

It would actually probably be better to replace the catalytic converter with a glasspack than to straight pipe it. Remember that if you lose too much backpressure, you'll lose some low-end torque. Going from second-hand information, a glasspack in place of a catalytic converter sounds better than stock and also better than a high performance cat, but not as good as straight pipe. But it's a good balance of every aspect.

As long as it's legal in where you live by all means go for it.

Backpressure is one thing, but exhaust velocity is something else. You don't want the first one, you want the second. You achieve second by having a properly sized exhaust piping and routing.

EDIT: found a decent article on exhaust theory here....

if your anywhere in the US tampering with a cat is illegal under federal law. to be honestly in a lower displacement NA engine...your better off just sticking with your cat or a high flow. its not worth the extra power really, adn you dont really GAIN anything back. you just shift your power band to the higher rpm's instead of lower. i say just leave it and do other exhaust work or other mods. if you realy must get a glasspack cuz it will be raspy as all getout if you just straight pipe it

120! up here you get Magnaflow high fow cats for 69.99... but a cherry bomb is still cheaper.

oh, slick, i accidentily reported you with my post. im used to the reply button being there. then like a dumbass I hit it again to tell the mods to forget about the report I just posted. so if you get some PM or somthing about being reported twice that was jsut me. sry once again.
