Mounting a Factory Roof Rack

Just like the title says... I think it pretty much have it worked out. I need 8 1/4-20 jack nuts (the water resistant type) some RTV and MAYBE some plastic washers...This is a link to them.

Two questions I have are 1) Can/will anyone hazzard a guess as to the thickness of the sheet metal on the roof (other than 'pretty thin', etc) and 2) Anyone have any idea how much room there is between the sheet metal and the headliner ?? That would be very helpful, thanks !!

 

Oh, for those of you who are missing any of those damn plastic pannel rivets that are in the wheel wells, etc and hold a bunch of stuff together/on here is a link...

the sheet metal is real thin, like 1/8-3/16". I used sheet metal screws and rtv silicone to attach mine with no problems just drill pilot holes first. There is probly 1/2" between the roof and headliner.

Yeah, I know some people just use sheet metal screws, but I want to do a better job than that...

The body is less than 1/16 inch, I'm guessing .035 to .045" thick. Is your Pathy armor plated ??

Your guess at the thickness is probably pretty close.

 

When I mounted mine.. which is not a factory "Nissan" rack ...I used 8mm (iirc) bolts, nuts (2per bolt), lock washers and fender washers. It's very solid, you grab the bars and push/pull the whole truck moves with no independent movement of the rack.

 

Don't recall the amount of space between but you should have plenty of room... I think 1/2-3/4 in most places, might be close.
