Inter-Lock Switch

The inter-lock is a safety device that does not allow the vehicle to be started unless the clutch is depressed or on auots, does not allow the gear selector to be moved out of park unless the brake is applied. On the autos, there is usually a bypass that requires some sort of tool to activate, like a flat bladed screw driver. Don't know of any way to get around it on the manual trannies. So it is not a driver selectable switch like that for headlamps.

Hope this helps (or did I get the wrong inter-lock? ).

Thanks Trainman, I read your post and I ran outside to try it and it worked!!! I have a manual transmission and I have to step on the clutch for the engine to start but if I click on the Inter-Lock switch I don't have to step on the cluch to start the engine. When would be a good time to use the switch? Is there even a reason to use it?

isnt that switch for offroading? i could be wrong, but i think ive heard somewhere that its good for , uhmm.. say your on a steap hill off road somewhere, and your truck stalls, instead of taking your foot off the brake to get to the clutch, doesnt it allow you to start the vehicle without having to un-brake and move to the clutch so you dont have to worry about rolling forward or backwards?

The only real use for the switch (I also have one on my manual tranny..and I use it) is to stop a theif getting away with your Pathy any quicker.....some theives are clueless and will think it's pooped....instead of depressing the clutch while trying to hot wire your ride.... he!!..I've had friends who thought they were gunna drive me home after a night of drinkin who couldn'ty figure out how to make my Pathy go! LOL. Just my thoughts...

Ya know, it would be pretty sweet if you could set it up to have to hit the switch, as well as the clutch, to start. A quick anti-theft device. I find the switch handy when working on the truck, and I want to fire it up without climbing in, starting, then getting back out.
