So I’ve been having issues with the back hatch of my pathfinder where the lock occasionally will not fully unlock and then the door opens up about an inch, then stops because the lock didn’t open fully. The issues comes and goes as it pleases and really just seems to go away with time, but I would like to know which part it is that needs replacing to fix this.

I’d look at cleaning & lubricating the hatch mechanism. It’s pretty easy to pull the rear hatch trim. Also, inspect the metal latch catch for damage - some get slowly worn away with vibration over time.
