does 2001 SE have a timing belt or chain

Planning to buy a 2001 SE Pathfinder; can someone tell me if it has a timing belt or chain and has 150 miles (240kms). Anything I should be aware of?

Friend of mine says the 3.3 has a belt and he thinks the 3.5 has a chain, but he isn't 100% sure.

The 3.5 does have a timing chain.

Ask about oil consumption.

Ask if auto tranny, whether the swirl control valves have been tightened and locktited.

If you can, park it warm facing nose down for 10 minutes and see if you have visible oil leaks on the pavement.

Look for dampness and smell underneath the front floor mats to see if the sunroof or front windshield seal is leaking. I still haven't figured out where it's coming from but I've been fighting it for years.

As clinnwn said, the 3.5 is a timing chain motor.  Check the strut towers for rust, it can be hard to see since it usually starts behind the struts.

I forgot about that. Also check recall status on gas filler tube rust, or that it has lived its life in non-salting states.

On my 96, I'm not sure if it is just a trim piece or part of the luggage rack system itself, but right where it meets the windshield trim/gasket there was a rust hole about the size of a pencil up under the piece itself. In my case I was able to force it up enough to force some silicone sealant up under the trim piece and it stopped the leak on mine. Mine was leaking in the upper corner on the drivers side just above the windshield.
