Does it sound like something got sucked up in there

Yes it seems so. When it's on a high setting I don't hear that sound.

I've already found some videos on youtube how to get to the motor.

I'm going to replace my cabin air filter soon and I will unscrew the motor (just 3 bolts I guess) and try to clean it as much as possible.

Is it possible to replace just the fan in case I need to? The whole assembly costs 170$ OEM.

Mine was making that noise which mostly went away on 4, and within a couple months it ran real slow, and then one day just wouldn't come on. I didn't do proper troubleshooting and tried sucking the few leaves out that were in the filter box, and getting a new resistor, but that didn't fix it. Getting a new fan assembly did fix it.

It was extremely simple to replace. The fan is probably not the problem, it is probably the motor brushes are worn out. But it isn't serviceable and must be replaced as an assembly.

It is literally a 10 minute job.

I bought a used one and resistor from a wrecker put it in it the parking lot. - seems like there a million different resistors for these I could not find a single on that looked like mine. Just went with the same dash controls seems to work ok.
