porridgebird
I went for cruise this morning, came home to back into Garage and I can't get this beast to go into reverse. There is no no problem at all with other gears and no grinding or noise. It just acts like there is not a gear there anymore. Its is a solid deadend below 5th where it should be. Btw it's a 94 manual transmission sev6. Never a problem 258,000 miles. It sounds like the transmission will have to come out to me but I really dont wanna! Any ideas?? Slartibartfast
IIRC there's a plastic bushing at the bottom of the shifter that can go bad. I'd start by checking that.
porridgebird
Thanks, so If I remove the shifter handle will the bushing be visible?

Slartibartfast
I haven't had a chance to tear into a manual (both my rigs are auto) but from what I've read, there should be a boot and a snap ring that come out to release the shifter rod, then the bushing should be on the end of the shifter. porridgebird
So Bart, I pulled the shifter and the bushing was cracked. Replaced the whole shifter with a spare that I kept when I changed trannys awhile back. Thanks for the pointer!
