Wretchasketch
Just used the forum to replace my timing belt. The rubber seal started coming off the upper timing cover upon reassembly. I put all the bolts in and tucked the strip of rubber in place as best I could before tightening the cover down. Needless to say the seal is not very solid, especially in top. Should I take the cover back off and make a gasket with black RTV, or just go on and put my belts and hoses back on without worry?
ahardb0dy
I would say if you don't have it back together yet than might as well make a gasket
Wretchasketch
That's what I was thinking, but I hate to take a step backwards. Thanks. Edited January 31, 2015 by Wretchasketch
ahardb0dy
better now than after it's all together and than it would be more work
Precise1
You can also slather some RTV on the outside of the seal as well, assuming you cleaned/can clean things off fairly well (isopropyl alcohol works well). Unless you wheel a lot/have really nasty weather, and considering it is the upper cover, I really don't think it is critical, more a safe than sorry approach. Just used the forum to replace my timing belt. I feel dirty now... B
Wretchasketch
Hardy har, Precise1:). Its all done now. I used loctite 598 adhere the rubber to the metal.
