Tricky brake caliper replacement issue, help appreciated!

I have a '98 4WD Auto Pathfinder SE with 230,000 miles on the clock (I take decent care of it). Last year one of the brake calipers seized and I cleaned it up and got it working "good enough" but it seized again and I decided to replace the calipers as it was time for pads and rotors anyway. That was this summer. Fast forward to the present and its still up on jackstands in my garage. I'll spare the finer details, but Nugeon has let me down 5 or 6 times now with poorly reman'd calipers. Part of the problem is that mine has the 14mm mounting hole for the torque member bracket which Nissan apparently switched to from a 12mm version sometime in the '97/'98 model year. If I order a reman caliper for a '98 Pathy, apparently there is no way to know for sure whether they'll send the 12mm or 14mm version. After months of struggling, swapping calipers and caliper parts I finally ended up with two Nugeon reman calipers and a new MC. Bled the system until I had good pedal feel but upon test driving the drivers side caliper is bent ever so slightly, but enough that it fails to engage the full pad surface.

So I decided to bite the bullet and just purchase two new calipers from Nissan. Problem is, they tell me that they can only get drivers side, the passenger side are no longer available!

Where can I get two new, or good quality reman'd brake calipers for a 1998 Pathfinder with the 14mm mounting hole? There MUST be a way to do this without the rigamarole!?! I wondered if the '99 uses the same caliper, so I could order two for a '99 and would be certain to get the 14mm torque member bit?

Any help greatly appreciated; we have a 7 week old baby and I gotta get this thing on the road before the weather gets nasty!

Thanks

Good post! Lots of info! I love hearing about all the weird changes that happened! Very interning to hear they changed the bolt size for the calipers. I wonder if that's when they changed the hub style too? Because they kouki pathfinders have different brakes and some of the front suspension components are different too. But no one has ever pinpointed when the change actually happened.

But as far as parts go, Rebelord said was i was going to say. Rob might be able to find a dealer that miraculously has a passenger caliper sitting on their shelf somewhere.

Rebelord- Do you know (or would you look and see if its not too much trouble) what number is stamped on the caliper body? I think it should be something like 4503 or 4053, some similar 4 digit thing.

Yes Alkorahil is Rob Lacy, the factory parts guy. He will be able to answer your questions/supply you with anything that is still being made.

Also, when ordering, specify 1999.0 model year and you should avoid that confusion, but any decent parts place should be able to check the hole size for you as well...
