Squealing when in reverse

Hello All. I am new here but think this website is great for Pathfinder lovers.

So on to my question, I have a 94 SE manual, and starting last week when I put it into reverse I heard a consistent high pitch squeal when I gassed it. I don't hear it everytime I put it in reverse, but more often than not. Any ideas? Is it the tranmission? Please note that I am no mechanic or don't have much auto repair background. Any idea how much this fix will cost me?

Same problem I'm having cept, mine is when I move forward. About it being the brakes, I doubt that. Wouldn't it only squeal if I were pressing on it? But I do have some scraping sound when I "reverse" and press on the brakes. I'm about due for an oil change. I might as well take a look.
