Hello to all,

My name is Nick Herman from the foothills/mountains of North Carolina. This is the first forum I have joined so bare with me if I sound like an idiot. I have a 1999.5 Pathfinder SE Limited, 3.3L, 5 speed, 4x4 with relatively low miles (140k). I purchased her in October of last year with 131k and have enjoyed every minute in the driver seat. I found NPORA while trying to find a lift kit (practically impossible) but after reading through a few threads I have gotten the gist of how to piece one together. I have basically put only mods that a high schooler could think of, HIDs, new door speakers, double din head unit and subwoofer and a Yakima basket for camping weather and the Powderhound for my snowboarding adventures.

The only thing I do not like about my Pathy is that while in fifth gear goin' 70 mph down the interstate, she is turning a hair over 3000 RPMs. Is this normal? Seems a little high to me. Possibly my model has an odd gear ratio? Either way, Glad to be a member and hope to post as often as I can!

Welcome Nick, thanks for joining NPORA and thanks for the introduction. :aok:

(nothing idiot about you, you are more coherent than most members and Miata owners)

So, I assume you have one of the rare manual transmission pathfinders since you say 5th gear... Congrats on that!

That RPM does seem high for a R50, our 1999.0 with 265/70/15 tires (stock, equals about 29.5") and automatic tranny is at about 2500rpm @ 70 MPH.

There is a plate under the hood on the passenger side firewall that will say HG43 or HG46 on the lower right corner (4.36 or 4.63 (something like that) gearing). Which do you have, and what is your tire size?

You may want to go larger with the tires (the VG33 can handle a reasonable increase) and I highly recommend changing out the front drive flanges for manual locking hubs for a little more power/better gas mileage. Plenty of threads around here on that... ;)
