Suspension Problems

Hello everyone! I am new and excited to get started. I currently own a 98 Pathfinder SE and love to take if offroading. It does great. However, I have only owned it for three years and have had to replace my shocks and struts every year. I first replaced them with stock parts. Soon after that they blew up again and so I replaced with monroe shocks and struts. Less than a year later my right rear shock blew up. Has anyone had this problem? Are the springs to weak for the weight of the vehicle? I am considering lifting it but im not sure if it will cause more problems. What's the deal? Thanks!

Monroes aren't really any better than stock shocks. Go with KYB, Rancho or Bilstein for some REAL shocks that'll take some abuse.

Now I wouldn't call myself a serious off roader, but I do shall we say abuse the suspension every once in a while. However, I had the struts done last year (ranchos) and have not had a problem with them at all. I would definately reccomend looking into something a little more heavy duty. Perhaps you could also look into the Old Man Emu spring set, there are a number of people here who have those installed and they seem to be much stiffer/stronger than stock.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I will have to save up and get me some rancho's. The guys at accesories unlimited talked me out of the rancho's and into the monroes. Now I know! I just have to decide between the OME set up or the rancho and AC srpings? Thanks again.

When I was looking around, the higest recommended shock and springs were the OMEs. I hear good things about the Bilsteins and Ranchos though the Ranchos are probably the most readily available. I'm waiting to get up to Colorado in a couple of mnths and I'll get OME springs/shocks for the back and OME springs in the front. I'd like to replace the struts as wll but have not decided on a brand yet.
