sailone32003
Ok I think I have a new one for every one. My starter was starting intermittently and I replaced it. After replacing it it started fine a few times then when I turned the key off the starter was still spinning, so I disconnected the battery to see if something was hung up, reconnected it but still spins and if I turn the key the solenoid does not engage. Any ideas?
Alkorahil
The solenoid on the starter is kaput. The pinion inside is getting hung up and not disengaging or engaging. Tapping on the solenoid semi-hard might free it up for a short while but it will eventually comeback to haunt, probably at the worst time possible. Eventually it will compeltely fail. The starter staying engaged is also going to tear your flywheel up, so I would fix the issue ASAP
cvdloc
I agree with Alkorahil, and I do want to throw an extra warning, those little motors are also a series motor, which in short will keep accelerating until self destruction, I have seen it happen (a little electrician fun), can be quite violent. ahardb0dy
Couldn't the starter relay be sticking "closed" which would cause the solenoid to stay on too? Would be a much easier fix anyway
