So tuned up done and fuel filter replaced within The last 3000miles spark plugs are ngk v power and wires are bosch ...cap and rotor are duralast...when my vehicle is in gear at idle it shutters hard as if it were going to shut off rpms dropping down to almost 500...does it only below 1000 rpm and very pronounced when vehicle is warm and or warm weather outside. Its hardly noticeable in neutral or park only check eng codes I have are p0325 knock sensor and I believe a p0138 (I have to double check ) my check eng light comes and goes it use to kick codes for o2 sensors but I haven't seen those codes in over a year would love to replace them if the code ever shows up again

0.02 - Duralast products tend to be either BWD or SMP (Standard Motor Products). Same manufactures that are sold at Advance and make a lot of the reg Napa parts. BWD tend to be the manufacture of Napa Premium parts.

I had a similar issue myself a bit back. Ended up being my coil pack shorting out to the distributor housing. So, pull your cap, then the cover for the distributor. Check for any "electrical" dust. Black soot where stuff can be shorting out.

Plus pull the coil back and check the bottom of it. Thats where mine wore and started shorting.

As for replacements, at the parts store. You can only get reman distributors with all new parts. They run about ~300-320. Plus you turn in your old to not pay a $20 core.

You can find the coil pack and ignition module separately around on the web though. Prices, I dont really know.

I never threw codes either.

As for you current code for the Bank 2 Sensor 2. Check out TSB NTB99-004b. Talks about that and a grounding issue causing it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Shutters at idle increased today and got to the point were vehicle would stall out and in order to start back up I would have to press my foot on the gas pedal..

Well it just stalled out completely and will not fire up even with foot on the gas. Codes im throwing are P0158 and P0138 and also a knock sensor code...im about to cave in and bend over and get raped by the dealer unless anyone has the solution

As I said in my post above. Pull your distributor cap. Then remove the cover in the distributor that covers the coil and ignition module. You can pull those using a phillips. Check and see if your coil is shorting out to the distributor. Plus check the module for any damage.

Those symptoms are what I had when my coil ground out, then eventually fried the module. But if you can catch it early enough. You can find the coil solo online for fairly cheap. Over replacing the whole distributor like I did.

I know it's a long shot but have you checked to see if the throttle body is dirty? My 04 was running great and then one day this same type of problem was happening. Car would start but very weak and to the point where I had to give it gas just like you're explaining. The RPMs would drop all the way down to 100 if the car didn't die completely. I checked countless things and was ready to head to the dealer...guy at parts store said a woman with a Maxima came in with the same problem. Handed me some throttle body cleaner...went home and sprayed...ran great again. Not sure if that'll help you but it's always worth a shot especially since it's only a few bucks.
