gtir007
i have a 97 auto, rwd, recently the trans fluid went low and i started hearing a grinding noise in the bell housing, i filled the trans. with fluid, it lasted for a week, i would hear the grinding noise only when the overdrive switch was off, anyway the trans finally gave up, it doesn't go into drive or reverse, if it does you have to rev the rpm high in order for it to move. i went to the junkyards all i saw was 4 x 4 trans. can i use the the 4 x 4 trans by swapping the rear tail from the 4 x4 to the rwd ?. i can't figure out if the torque converter got screwed up or the trans oil pump- thanks for the help Edited January 4, 2013 by gtir007
Nefarious
swap it to 4x4 and use the whole thing, thats what i would do anyways. but if you want to stay 2wd then theres a good chance that yes you could swap the tailshafts over as the transmission code is the same between the two, but maybe someone else can chime in that knows for sure. sroeser01
I agree. I wouldn't want 2wd. Just my opinion, even if it was more work. I hope it works out
