Also the ignition was in the on position without a key now

Does that mean someone used a screwdriver and broke it or something?

Anyway, to answer your question, I would check your fuses. Sounds like a stupid thief. First of all...they tried to steal a mid-90s Pathfinder. No offence whatsoever. I love them, but they ain't worth a whole lot. They are easy to break into I suppose... Second, they can't even steal a car with next to zero security features? I can hotwire mine in about 120 seconds.

They just left the door open with the ignition in the on position? Either someone really hates you, or there's an 11 year old out there with a fetish for Nissan Pathfinders.

But yeah..just check your fuses.

No well i think they tried to use another key or sumtin cuz i was able to put my own key like anyother day n no damage seems to been done .......i checked all fuses already its weird

hmm. Well if the battery is brand new..and the fuses are good, I would start checking for wires.

Maybe the thief ripped out wires and tried to start it that way? Just look/feel around for loose wires or connections. Do you think anything was taken apart? Like the steering column? Also, do you think the hood was popped at all? Look for a loose ground wire.

I'm a little confused...so...they opened the door somehow. Not that hard. You may have left the window down. You may not have locked the door. They could have used a hanger or slimjim type thing to unlock it. Are there forced entry marks on the door?

that part is simple. What I get more confused about the more I think about it is this...

You said the ignition was in the "ON" position, but there was no key.

You think they used another key to turn the ignition.

^^^

If the ignition is in "ON", then you can't take the key out. And if they did use another key, then why couldn't they start it?

Also, this happened with my dad. Not the whole dumbass-thief-tried-to-steal-my-car-and-failed, but some dumb b***h left the key on "ON" to listen to the radio. When the ignition is on "ON", it is much different than "ACC". If the engine is off, but the ignition is on "ON", then the fuel pump is priming, and other things are happening. My dad had to reset his fuel pump and some other stuff I can't remember. I think his fuel pump priming for 2 hours blew some stuff up. I think he had to replace some relays or something.

Well there no forced entry ways ..... The door was unlocked ... Also thats what i thought that u couldnt take a key out if its in the on position but yea the key slot was facing the on position but no key was in it do u think the stock alarm didnt let him turn it on .... Cuz my brother said he heard an alarm in the middle of the nite.... Im thinking he couldnt get the alarm off so he just left the truck .....does the stock alarm have like an immobalizer or sumtin

Honestly, I have no idea about Pathfinders anymore. I have a Hardbody. I used to think they were identical, but I keep finding more differences. I didn't even know Pathfinders had alarm systems, but apparently they had them since before 1990. Sport/comfort option shocks? wtf? That stuff exists? I had no idea. DRLs? I don't remember any Hardbodies having these options.

I have no idea what the alarm system does. I would assume draining your battery wouldn't be the primary function of it though.

All the alarm does is honk and flash the lights. It's also passive and goes off after 30 seconds of entry. That's how my '88 stock alarm is.

That's all any of them ever do...be loud and obnoxious.

The key can be removed if it is worn down enough. If you want to check to see if the ignition switch is the problem remove the upper and lower covers on the steering column, the electrical part of the ignition switch can be removed by taking 1 screw out, once removed try starting the truck by turning the electrical part you removed from the ignition switch.

1994SEV6, I mean no offense, but you've been little of no help and are just cluttering up the thread.

Is this the factory alarm? I'll figure yes. The alarm is deactivated when the ignition is turned anywhere but OFF. I imagine it has a starter kill, but only if the thief tries to hotwire it and break the column lock. Since the alarm was still going off, this leads me to believe that the ignition switch is broken, but continue reading!

If the battery is drained below 9-10v, you won't get anywhere turning the key trying to start it, you won't even get a click. Charge the battery at least beyond 50% and try to start it. When you turn the key to off, does the truck ACT like it's off, or is all the @!*% still on? Same thing when you try to turn it to START, does everything go off like it should, or does it stay on?

I'm going to bet your ignition switch is broken internally, and that's why you still have your truck.

Sorry I should have stated in my reply that the battery should be fully charged before trying what I suggested. I was thinking the same thing that the starter kill may have been engaged and if the battery was dead or very low the alarm would not be able to be re-set or shut off until the battery is re-charged.

I 2nd the something busted in the ignition switch thought. Your ignition could have been worn to begin with and another key used and jammed in to get it to turn what it did (hence the ability of removing it as well without turning it back) and now even though you are turning it past that, it ain't fully engaging into the start position. Pop the column trim off to and look for something amiss. wd21s/d21s are easy to steal, great for joyriders or someone who just needs a set of wheels to get outa Dodge in a jiffy, not necessarily a "Ohh, I want it" theft vehicle . They're on par with pre-PasslockII GMs on the break and go front.

http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19755

that is the pinned topic on the Vehicle Security System with TSbs and some info that should help you (might have some relearn info you can use in it, that just requires time to do :aok: )

I think his fuel pump priming for 2 hours blew some stuff up. I think he had to replace some relays or something.

Not to get off topic but this line scares me. If your fuel pump is sitting there constantly priming with the key just on (only supposed to run for a few seconds at initial key on-ANY fuel injected car) please go give your mechanic a good hard KickintheNutz.gif for hot wiring the pump for me

The 95 alarm, I dunno if 94 is the same, is quite an attention getting. It has an extra alarm horn, when I get mine working again I'll post up a video, and it's not just honking. I was impressed when I set my old 95's off just to see.

Now, my s12 on the other hand, that is a horrible alarm! It just honks the horn and flashes the headlights on highbeam. that's it.

Your profile shows that you live in LA...

Chances of your truck being broken into and getting stolen are probably very good. It was probably just a break in and they couldn't get the vehicle to run. Let's see what happens with a good battery...

I find it amazing that people would still take old Pathfinders. They don't really make great getaway vehicles unless you are getting away in a foot of snow.

Pathfinder's are high on the list stolen vehicles, reliable, low profile, lots of cargo room to transport illegal @!*%.
