jaredfrompcola
Need help or advice on what to do. Long story short went somewhere and parked. Tried to go reverse and Bam nothing happens. It feels like it now is in neutral and reverse light does come on. Just need advice if there is an easy fix or am I going to have to pay big bucks to get the tranny repaired. I am poor so any easy fix will really help. I am new to this site and I am glad I found it online. There are alot of stuff I want to do to my PF after reading alot of info on here. Thanks 1995 Auto V-

Thanks 1995 Auto V-6 I'm sure more will chime in but sadly it sounds like the transmission is toast no reverse is one of the main things that go our first. The factory transmission cooler is horrible and can also clog easily starving the tranny. I had mine replace about 15k ago with same issue no revers and installed a nice aftermarket tranny cooler so it doesnt happen again.
ahardb0dy
Not sure if the OD tranny is the same basic design as the older non-OD tranny but the first time I had my tranny rebuilt in my old 87 hardbody the tranny shop told me first and reverse are on the same clutch pack, and when one goes out the other is soon to follow. Can't recall what I lost first.
Kingman
Similar set up. Reverse requires the most fluid pressure so it's usually the first to go.
Precise1
This is a symptom that the tranny is failing, but keep reading. #1 is don't drive it!! From what I have read, reverse needs the highest pressure to operate so there is an issue with clogging or the pump. The stock radiator is also prone to clogging, making the tranny overheat, so many of us bypass that into an after market cooler. A few questions: How many miles on the vehicle and when was the tranny fluid last changed? What does it look/smell like?? Also, in the Garage section, there is a pinned topic on the Factory Service Manual. You can download a PDF version and there is a section on automatic trannies/trouble shooting that should help you out. Depending on what you learn, some people have gotten lucky with dropping the pan and look for bits in bottom, check/clean out the tranny lines in the radiator or bypass it into an aftermarket cooler and flush the tranny or replace the fluid. Kingman
X2. I've been one that got lucky with just doing a fluid flush and an aftermarket cooler install. The slow-to-engage reverse problem went away and my shift pattern became normal again. It's a fairly cheap "fix" and if the transmission does need to be replaced, well at least you'll have a nice new cooler to go along with it. Never ever run a new transmission on an old stock cooler. jaredfrompcola
Never ever run a new transmission on an old stock cooler. I am getting tranny repaired and mechanic says he always put a new cooler on. Thanks for letting me know about that.
