So..today..i was cruising to the redlight (radio was off for some unknown reason) i hear the clank (metal sound) as soon as i hit the brakes (as usual)

the light turns green..i let off the brakes to accelerate..and notice..this same clanking sound..ticks faster and faster..still staying at a quiet volume..it just gets faster and faster...any ideas what this could be?

Thanks!

Yep had the same happen in many different vehicles, not all the same fix though. Check the following for end play or vertical movement. Pitman arm upper and lower ball joints, recently i found drag link linkages to cause similar noises when applying brakes and sometimes steering into and driving out of corners. Control arm bushes for end play and finally, jack the front end up with the offending wheel off the ground and rotate listening for any unusual noises in the CV area. By the way, check for stones, screws, bolts and other items lodged in between the tread. Reminder, the source of the noise is not always located where you think it is coming from.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Here are some possibilities:

  •
  • A bolt may have backed out of somewhere.
  • A pad has worn down way too much.
  • Something got into the brake pad.
  • The automatic hub locker is doing something funny.
  • The wheel bearings need to be tightened and/or repacked.
