Replace Mechanical Power Steering Pump

I've been looking at a bunch of Electric vehicle components and I've been thinking of ways to reduce engine drag in the nissan so I've come across several different steering pumps that run off of 12V and pull a max of 40A under max load condition and virtually none while moving (if you can use your VSS to put the pump to sleep)

so 1...Does anyone know where or has a performance curve of the Nissan Alt vs HP Used

2 does anyone know HP draw from the power steering pump or a performance curve for it as well?

3. anyone know the max load on the stock nissan electrical system (i'm guessing I could add up all of my fuses and say that is the max load i could possibly have which I know is probably 20% or so lower than that)

these are both things I Doubt anyone would have unless you were with nissan unless someone has done a lot of dyno testing

Has anyone done hydro steering on an IFS? the thought behind this is to rid myself of wearing out steering components besides UBJ's and LBJ's..a hydro ram steering system could also be swapped over if I ever SAS

steering pump takes up to 7hp @ full load. this is sitting on hot blacktop with no foward momentum.

It uses about 5hp whenever its used @ slow speeds

It always uses a mininmum of 2~3 when your not putting much load on it.

1)So, the cost of the pump, is it worth 2~3 poinies?

2)then we go back to your other question; how many more ponies will you alty draw when it has the pump switched on? 1? 1/2? deminising your gain even more...

I considered electric steeing pump myself and gave up the idea after 1&2 above

Hydro steer, you would have to mount the rack to the frame in line with where you CL would be if you want to match the same steeing geometry you have now.

Differant mounting locations may work but perfomance of steeing geomety may vary by location.

you're looking at the wrong end for the HP savings...7HP under full load if running a electric pump and it only add's 1-2 hp to the alty draw then you've gained 5 hp...I think I could do the whole swap for under $300 for new hoses and the pump

I'm shooting to get everything off the crank except for an alty or 2
