bolts broke off of transmission pan

i was changing the trans fluid and filter and gasket, and when i went to torque the bolts to put the pan back on, two of the heads snapped off and now i am stuck with the screw part inside the hole! i do not know what to do at this point! i havnt gotten any leaks after a 20 minute drive, but i would still like to fix it. can someone tell me what to do? thanks!

HA HA! My friend did the exact thing after I told him to be gentle.

May I remind everyone that the torqe for these little grade 3(equiv) bolts is. 5.1-6.5 ftlbs.

If you are a hammer head may I reccomend getting a 3" socket wrech so that you are less likely to over torque them.

 

fortunately these are easy since access is fairly open, jack your rig as needed for more room.

the screws are fairly soft so some small "drillouts" (they run reverse and extract 1 when they bite or 2 when the bottom out) should do the trick.

 

or you can use the older drill and ez out.

Drill about 3/16" deep with the bit recomended for your small easy out.

now start gently with a hammer tapping the ez out in and turning counter clockwise after it has begun to set.

If you whail on these softies they may punch thru and dmg your theads.

I did the same thing like 5 months back. I have had no issues with leaking or anything and forget about it most of the time. May drop the pan soon and extract the old bolt and replace with a new one if i get around to doing it.
