Pathy Lack Of Power

For those with stock engine Pathy, I know I am not telling you something you don't already know here.

I was towing the camper trailer away last weekend and at 105km/h (60mph) it was revving too fast in 3rd and too slow in 4th with the auto. The Pathy has an annoying rev band that comes on (as much as a Pathy can come on) at 2700RPM.

So, apart from a 2.5inch hi- flow exhaust, has anyone done anything about a little extra power, or at least bring that neck snapping torque burst down from 2700RPM to say, 2200 or 2400RPM?? I run LPG on the car so that may eliminate some wiz computer chip, or will that help? I didn't really want to go for a different profile camshaft, but if that is the answer, I might do it. Its not about more power, just having the current power at a better RPM.

do a 2.5 inch exhaust and you will loose whatever is left of your power

2.25 is the maximum, the best size is a 2.00 i think (someone verify this)

look around and you will find stuff

 

there are 3 things i can say real quick

1. add a transmission cooler if you haven't already done so

2. when towing, turn off overdrive

3. add headers and possibly redo the rest of the exhaust

Tungsten, you are correct if he had a WD21 but his is 2004 and I think it has the 3.5 liter?? Pretty sure it is dual exhaust also so it's a totally different animal...

 

Nick, if you think you are lacking power, try driving a WD21...

It's not the answer you want, but ditch the LPG and run gasoline. That should give you 10% more power right there...

Other than that, a different intake should help and cat back exhaust systems.

Yes I do have a 2004 and it is a VG33 engine. Some people here in OZ have done 2.5in exhaust from the cats back and noticed a good difference. It is dual to the back of the cats then into single system. I think I want a little more than that.

Has anyone messed around with VG33 camshafts for lower torque band??

typically cams wind up raising and sharpening the torque band. If you want a mild gain in bottom end maybe try getting a stock 3.0 cam. It is larger than the 3.3 cam but still produces flat power.
