PATHRIDER
hey guys im in the process of swapping my auto transmission now and what ive noticed when draining the oil on the transfer case the plug has a bunch of metal shavings but the tranny plug is clean. Could it be my t-case has gone bad? A few months back my wifes truck would not go on reverse and for some reason the next day it did...It ran fine up until a month ago where I can hear it grinding it would go away when it shifts. 2 weeks ago it finally went out..It would not go forward but it has reverse. With the motor running and on gear I think I can hear the tranny spinning Could it be my t-case?..Your input is greatly appreciated fellas
wilson
you know I have the same questions.I too have been having some tranny/tranfer issues http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=24399. I have the same thing happen to me with the drain plugs when I changed the fluids. I'll be interesting to see what's what. good luck!
PATHRIDER
Im just going to replace my tcase too..Its not a good sign seeing those metal shavings on the drain plug. Im goping to have to have the tcase and transmission tested first at a local transmission shop here
nismothunder
When I change the t-case fluid on my 95 is had the same thing...But I was the first person to ever change it so I considered it normal wear and tear for a truck with 187k on it.When the parts are new they wear more, since there getting broken in. I spoke to a transmission guru this morning and he said that shavings like that is normal as long as theyre not chunks of metal..also on the reverse no forward situation I have he also said that the tcase has nothing to do with it..I was able to finally drop the transmission this afternoon and another one is going in...well see what happens.
