Weird "clunk" in steering...

It's not so much even a clunk... I can't really describe it. Every time I go over a bump, I can feel it in my steering wheel, just a real small jolt. This happened ever since my body lift... I checked out the steering shaft and it seems more or less solid, but the whole upper part is a little loose, but its loose at the U joint where it connects to the next shaft into the power steering box. I'm not sure if it's a problem; its mostly just really annoying. Any help on this?

I had a similar problem of a clunking noise when turning, when the weight of the vehicle transfered from one side to another. Checked the bolts, 2 were loose, tightened them, and the noise went away, problem solved. Hope this helps.

Either have someone else turn the steering wheel back and forth a small amount or use your hand to twist the steering shaft while you look at the input shaft to the steering gearbox and the pitman arm on the bottom. If there's excessive play between the input shaft and the output shaft, you need to re-adjust the steering gearbox via the adjuster screw and locknut on top of it. Other than that, your centerlink could be getting looser, or a tie rod...do you still have your front swaybar on? :/

I'm not sure, I reckon I'd have to try all of those things. As for the front swaybar, yeah, I think its still on? Beats me. I KNEW I shouldn't have put that front gap guard on yet. =D Thanks for the info...

I'm having the same problem on my 01 pathy. I have had 4 mechanics at Nissan look - no luck. My brother is a Car and Airplane mechanic - he is flying out tonight - I will have him look at it and let you know...

This might be a shot in the dark but could it be your turn sgnel switch? I know when it went bad in my ford it made a click that i could feel in my steering wheel. You see theres like a rachet set up for it to shut of after turns. That goes bad making it click? LIke i said shot in the dark but give it a try.
